This church is located in a small place in the medieval centre of the village. She has a Romanic character and is dating from the end of the XII century, and is being classified as National Monument and has suffered from demodulations into the XVI and XVII century. Anyhow when walking into the historical centre you have to visit this location.

This is what we can call a nice example of an “Urban Solarenga” house from which the construction is going back into the time of the XVII century. The house has got in the year 1984 a recuperation and through this it has received a library and the actual tourist delegation. But with the inauguration of the new library into the old school of the village, this location was turned into the “Interactive shop of Tourism and the Museum of Alvarinho, this in order to promote the “Alvarinho Wine”. Nice historical location, need to visit on your trip.

This church located also into the historical centre of the village of Monção has being built in the XVII century with “Mannerists and Baroc” elements, but with a very clear “Transition style” but still a modest building. On the inside it is kept rather simple when comparing to allot of other churches in Portugal, but never the less a location to see when you are visiting this historic centre. All this is in a circle from about 250 meters away from the Tourist Information location. It is when you are leaving the Tourist Information, turn to your right and about 30 meters on this side is the church.

On your visit of the historical part of the village of Monção there are more things to see, for instance you can pass also at the “Municipal Archive” which has being inaugurated in the year 2008. With the time passing by it has being used for all kinds of things and has got also allot of transformations. But as a point of some tourist attraction of this building this can be the “Medieval water well” which they have discovered during some of the recuperation works, and it seems that this well was associated with the water supply system of the people who lived in that time into the fortified walls of the village. So also the well is recuperated and has about 1.5m of diameter and is going until about 8 meters of dept., and can be seen by the people who are visiting the Municipal Archive. And to see some parts of the medieval walls, just walk to the Fountain on the roundabout and go than to your right here you will have some of this walls, and on your way of return you can also pass by the house of common, and doing so you are almost on the end of your visit, have a nice walk.

A great spa day. It is not cheap, however, the treatments are well worth their prices. Very relaxing. An oasis in a hive of activity that is Monaco in the summer.
It is worth phoning to find out if there are any promotions on when you visit, as there are often special deals around.
