Reykjavik bears the distinction of being the world’s northernmost capital, and for many Icelandic visitors it also serves as a gateway to the rugged adventure options beyond. Recharge after outdoor pursuits in one of the many geothermal springs or luxurious indoor spas. We appreciate Reykjavik’s open-minded and energetic culture that includes a hip and internationally recognized music and arts scene, great food and notoriously "enthusiastic" nightlife.

Laugardalur is a wonderful park in the center of Reykjavík. It has lots of colourful flowers and plants and trees. Lots of ducks stay in the small lake. There are also remains of old Reykjavík there, where the women took the dirty laundry to clean them - which is where Laugardalur got its name from, Laugar comes from Þvottalaugar which means laundromat.

I made an effort to go to as many pools as I could while I lived in Iceland for 6 weeks, and this was by far the largest. They have 10 hot tubs- one of which is a geothermal sea water bath. They also have a big steam room, slides, volleyball courts, a giant chess set and my favorite; a cold tub! Definitely a great pool for all ages

As an American, when I think of a zoo, I envision elephants, bears, big cats, and monkeys. You will not find these here. It is possible the locals have the same opinion of what is a "zoo", as when we were asking the bus drivers about which bus to take to the zoo, the one bus driver looked at us quizzically and said "no zoo". However, it is charming in its own right. The park has mainly local animals, such as farm animals and a super cute fox and mink. My husband really liked the seals. It is on the smallish side, so combined with the rides, it is perfect for younger kiddos. I would put the emphasis on the FAMILY park and not the zoo.
HI Iceland is a non-profit membership organisation with a mission to support sustainable and responsible tourism, as well as cultural diversity.
The owner and founder of Puffin taxi is Ólafur Hjörtur Ómarsson but always referred to as Óli. He grew up in the east of Iceland in a small fishing village and went early to sea and stayed in that profession for 30 years. First he started to drive for other travel agency’s but then came to realise he might as well do it for himself. Óli is very obliging person and his goal is to meet people’s wishes so changing a plan slightly is not a problem for Óli.
