The Bigfork Summer Playhouse brings talented college student actors to Bigfork every summer to perform in a variety of musicals. They come from all over the United States and try out to be accepted. It's considered to be one of the best summer stock theaters for aspiring college age actors in the country. This summer's Mama Mia was sold out well in advance of every performance and we couldn't buy a ticket in advance. So, we went to the theater at 5:20 pm to get into a waiting list line that the theater began making at 6pm. We were the sixth in line. The first in line started the line at 5 pm. After the list was taken we were told to come back at 7:45 pm when they would know how many tickets they had. We went out to dinner, came back and we got in! It was phenomenal, better than any production of Mama Mia I've seen.
The theater is beautiful with plenty of room between rows. The talent and production quality of course vary from year to year and from musical to musical but invariably they are able to attract several actors who are excellent. It's well worth the cost of a ticket, which by today's city standards is a bargain.
If you are looking for something to do while in or near Bigfork, having dinner in a local restaurant before the theater is definitely worth doing. You can purchase tickets and select seats online.. Make a dinner reservation, however. The tourist trade in this area which is near Glacier National Park has grown significantly over the past few years. It's not uncommon for the best restaurants to be fully booked. Families with young children should check with the box office for appropriateness (adult content). Mama Mia was a tad over the top for young children but I've found that most of their productions are not. Good luck getting an aisle seat,

Flathead lake is a gorgeous place to enjoy a day paddle boarding. The friendly staff at Paddle Board Outfitters gave us a quick and thorough training before setting us loose on the open water. The prices are great and the experience was wonderful. We will definitely be back!

I met Captain Mike at the dock for our 8:00am trip. Before he could impress me with his guiding skills, he showed me what kind of person he is: caring, thoughtful, proficient and professional. We were waved down by two men in distress as we were making our way out to the open waters of Flathead Lake. They had capsized their boat the night before and had spend all night balanced on the hull of their boat. They were cold & exhausted! Captain Mike did everything necessary to obtain the help & support needed for these two men. Quickly assessing the situation, he called the Sheriff, contacted EMTs, provided clothing & shelter and food & water. The whole event took about 2 1/2 hrs. We were relieved to know that, when we left these men, they were in far better shape than when we found them.
Captain Mike offered to extend my fishing trip by 2 1/2 hrs and began to show me his knowledge of fishing on this lake. We ended up catching 12 Lake Trout and 1 Bull Trout. My day of fishing was exciting and memorable, but it's Captain Mike and the rescue that will remain fresh in my mind for a very long time.

Very nice leisurely cruise around the lovely Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. The captain provided interesting history and narratives as we cruised. Reasonable price. You can bring a picnic lunch and BYOB. Can get tickets in advance but doesn't usually sell out, so you can also take the chance and do same day ticketing. Worth doing if in the area!

I skied there 2 days and had great snow both days. Getting there did take longer than I thought it would but my rental (Subaru Crosstrek) didn't have any trouble with the roads. The bar upstairs is fun and the staff friendly. I was entertained by a group doing a "shotski" and celebrating a birthday with a nicely decorated birthday cake. The skiing on Powder Wednesday (they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) was phenomenal. I loved the Glades, I did it until I was too tired to move. Everyone was friendly and there were no lift lines at all. The area is a little small but I found enough runs to keep me happy. Lift tickets were only $40 and I think they are less on Thursdays. Great, fun, safe for families, place to ski.

We stay at Flathead Lake but don't have a dock. Volunteer Park is in Lakeside and on Flathead Lake. A wonderful place to swim. The beach is clean and the view is beautiful. The bathrooms are clean. There is a grassy area and a beach area. The water is clean and beautiful. There are multiple docks to jump off. Younger kids can play in the water by the beach and have a great time. We have swam in multiple locations at Flathead and this is one of the nicest area. The water is cold no matter what so you really need to go on a HOT day. The great thing about the docks is you can swim from one to the next and warm up in the sun on the dock. It is a very family friendly place. Go on a day when the sun is out and it is hot if you want to swim. If you just want to enjoy the beach and the view it won't matter.
Lakeside Marine & Powersports is a full service boat rental company in Lakeside MT. With all brand new boats and personal watercraft. Best on the lake.
