It's worth the short off road drive to a tiny parking spot next to a picnic table. 15 min hike on a path that you might miss if there's much snow. Beautiful!

Most people would recommend this hike in one direction or the other. The most useful advice I found was parking at Malarrif and then do a return hike, ie, Malarrif-Londragar-Malarrif. However, I modified this slightly and this is my suggestion (if you are driving from Arnapstapi): 1. Park at Londrangar, walk to the viewing platform to see the basalt cliffs. 2. Drive a short distance further on to Malarrif, visit the excellent Tourist Information Centre. The toilet is open 24 hours. 3. Walk towards Londrangar as far as you wish to view the basalt cliffs, depending on your time availability. 4. Do a walk along the Malarrif beach as well. We

I happened upon Skarðsvík Beach during my drive of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula while I was on my way to Svörtuloft Lighthouse. It really looks stunning to see a golden beach in a country full of black sand beaches, especially against the lava rocks background and the blue sea. It looked almost tropical. It was very peaceful to walk along the shoreline and watch the crashing waves. Just be careful if you are visiting at high tide and/or it is very windy.

The Visitor Center is located at Malarrif on the south part of the peninsula. We are open every day from 10 am - 17 pm. We give out information about the park and its many different and fun activities . We also do free hikes with a rangers at 13:00 every day from June 24th until August 14th.
If you have the chance drive north from Reykjavik to Snaefellsjokull national park. Its about 2 hours. Do the loop road around the park for stunning views at every turn. Its all of Iceland wrapped up into 1 park. Stunning waterfalls, great coastal views, mountains, scenic roads, beach walks. Its go it all.

I wanted to visit Svörtuloft, also called Skálasnagaviti during my drive of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The drive there was somewhat rough and bumpy and I was glad I had a car with higher ground clearance, although there were several smaller cars that also braved the access road. The lighthouse is painted a bright orange and looks great against the lava field and the ocean background. I was lucky with the weather and saw it in beautiful sunshine. There are also a table and benches for a picknick. Well worth the detour if you have a sturdy car and/or don't mind the bumpy road.

Exhibition on fisheries and natural by the Glacier. The Museum displays the rich history of the fishing industry in the region, include tools, photos, old ships, and a fully built turf house. The Museum has a good collection of taxidermy of local animals, birds and fishes. There are also informative videos about the local fish and fauna. The oldest fishing boat preserved in Iceland is kept in the Museum. Outside, in the Park, is Þorvaldarbuð, a fisherman´s cottage and an exhibition "Settelmen from the West" The Museum has a small coffee shop with cakes and hot waffles
