How does a town survive devastating fire?? Move businesses to the underground basements and continue. It is a fascinating walk through the different businesses, seeing the museum pieces and learning about the isolation of certain ethnic groups. Our guide was very knowledgeable. Small groups (5 -6) would be the recommended size to facilitate the visit as some areas are small. Don't miss the Train Museum in the Ticket Office area.

We learned on this place from the reception desk at the hotel in Fort Benton. Otherwise, I am not sure we would have known about this treasure of history which contains the historical/archaeological record of bison kills by the native peoples over the past 2000 years. Located behind the Holiday Village strip mall in Harve, the site has been carefully excavated and preserved. There is a view from above and then, you are taken (or you walk) down a steep road to three sites which have been dug and exposed. Each is protected by a small house. The tour guides were wonderful, engaging and informative. The opportunity to practice with the ancient throwing device was a bonus. Highly recommended!

The craft beer is tasty and there are numerous choices. All of the employees are very friendly and greet you with a smile. Be sure to stop in. We love this place and I think you will too!

A good look at mid west history despite negligible funding from any level of the US government. The guide, Scott, is extremely knowledgeable and very pleasant, and his efforts make up for the lack of buildings left. Part of the Old Fort Trail, it needs lots of support from visitors to show that history is important. Definitely worth a look, and very accessible. Learned lots!!

Wine, Wine and more Wine. We have six wines by the glass (3 white,3 red) that we rotate weekly. The staff at Vine 19, encourages everyone to try everything, kind of a mini wine tasting. Vine 19 has 4 beers on tap, meat and cheese boards, and a chocolate board. Our Wine Club is one-of-kind and so is our view. The patio overlooks the new and improved Beavercreek Golf Course. Vine 19 has music at least once a month, with more one the way! Our new private tasting room/meeting room has just been completed, so book your event today. (seats 20 maximum) This is a hidden gem on the Hiline, come see us next time your get to Havre USA
I ended up here in part because I met the owner at a brew pub in Havre the night before. This IS walking distance from downtown, but it is a longer walk. It overlooks the golf course, and has outdoor seating. There are six wines that rotate each week - and she is clearly passionate and knowledgeable about the wines she pours. This isn't a winery, she works with various distributors when she selects the weekly wines -- the tasting part is free, but it is DEFINITELY worth sitting either outside on the patio or inside at the bar for an extra glass. There are also four beers on tap if you don't like wine. She also offers a charcuterie and a cheese plate - wonderful choices and very reasonably priced. In a town where most of the fare is nothing special, this spot is a special breath of fresh air.

This was a surprise site. In a mini mall is a museum dedicated to the history of the area and to dinosaurs. Who knew there was a dinosaur trail in MT? Fairly good variety of items and bones that you can hold. The gentleman there was so knowledgeable about the history of local Forts, Local Indian Tribes and more. I will go back and take more time reading about the exhibits and take pics.

We first drove by this place going into Havre as we pulled over to use their parking lot (we drive a motorhome) to go in the back to take a bathroom break. Next time was when we were "chasing" an Amtrak train. We saw the owner cooking some sort of BBQ so we decided to turn around and eat. July 4th. They had ribs that they cooked...ordered an order for each of us. Large, tasty, meaty portions. Of course, not southern ribs but decent. Owner is from Great Britain...told us lots of ship stories. Kind of a dive, "rugged" and off beat but local flavor was all over the place, including the clientele. We enjoyed the experience and the food.
The High Line Heritage House Museum warmly welcomes you to beautiful, historic Havre and Hill County, Montana! We invite you to take a step back in time and experience the grace of Victorian and Edwardian life during the late 19th and early 20th centuries on the Montana frontier. John F. Mathews family worked hard and helped build the largest city on Montana’s Hi-Line. Our tour focuses on the Mathews family, their servants and boarders, as well as their professional and social connections, both respectable and nefarious. You will learn about their triumphs and tragedies in their circa 1898 Queen Anne home, as well as the current owner’s passions and dreams of restoring this “diamond in the rough” museum to its former glory and preserve it for future generations. We also offer Historic Havre Strolls and History Among the Headstones tours, as well as two popular local history books. You will not find better tours about Havre and Hill County’s history anywhere!
