Visit the Akta Lakota Museum to experience a living lesson on the Native American way of life, past and present. Each year we receive thousands of visitors from all over the globe that want to deepen their appreciation of Lakota culture. As an outreach program of St. Joseph's Indian School we pride ourselves on not just providing that experience but creating an atmosphere conducive to learning and healing into the hearts of our students as well as our visitors. What makes our museum such a wonderful experience is our focus. We have an outstanding collection of cultural, historical and artistic works that relate specifically to the Northern Plains Indian Tribes, the ancestry of the students served at St. Joseph's. Our historical collection honors the past while our contemporary collection represents the creative spirit of today's world. We work closely with Indian artist and artisans to present contemporary artwork that builds on cultural traditions while expressing itself in new ways. What you take away from your visit is the understanding that Lakota culture is not just a thing of the past. It's alive and thriving today.

Bigger than it looks, especially if you go to the building out back. Fun time, great, helpful staff. Probably spent about 2 hours here.

We stopped here in the early morning as we drove cross country. This is on the hill over looking the Missouri river. It is amazing how the scenery changes as you cross the river. There was a visitors center but we were there before it opened.

Last year we used Allen's fishing guide services for the first time. We enjoyed our guide, Lee, so much that we specifically requested him this year. My husband has some mobility limitations and Lee is very accommodating.
Not only did we return but other family members joined us as well. We had 3 boats for a group of 10. Two boats went to the same location while the third boat went to a different location. We would meet at Allen's at 6am for donuts before loading up in the guide's vehicle to go to the fishing location. Each day we were back around 2pm. You need to have lunch/drinks in a cooler for each boat as we didn't stop to have lunch together. Everyone caught their limit of walleye both days. Allen's will even give you a framed 8x10 photo to remember the good times.

While roadtripping across South Dakota, we stopped to find a place to eat in Chamberlain and saw a sign for The Busted Nut Bar and Grill and thought it was hilarious so we checked it out. The bar is right on the river and has an outdoor patio and good view of the water. The bartenders and waitresses were very friendly and funny. The food was pretty good for bar food. It was definately worth stopping.

This was really just a bar with some tables in it. The people were nice and the food was average. I do have to say that the breaded mushrooms were really bad.... I wouldn't order those.
