There are about 15 to 20 parking spots, depending on how nicely people park. A pay machine which accepts credit cards. $5/hr with $20 max for the whole day.
A few portable toilets are available and that is it.
It is about a 1 to 1 1/2 hr drive from downtown Ft. Myers.
It is advisable to come early if you need to drive here as there really is no other place to park nearby. You will get fined and towed if you do.
The beach itself is pretty shelly and not easy to walk on. It also is in front of a large multi complex resort area which stretches out all the way to the tip of Captiva, this of course has it's own pro's and cons'
The water was pretty rough, there is nothing breaking the waves and it was pretty windy. On a calmer day, you maybe able to snorkel and see things, although that may not be that much.
As a tip I would say, go to the Lighthouse and fishing pier in Sanibel instead. When come in over the bridge turn left instead of right to go to Captiva.
There is more parking there, calmer water, with same wind conditions and easier access beach.
In short, one of those been there done that kind of thing. Next time I go to the lighthouse beach instead. Saves a good amount of driving as well.

The history that goes with the chapel is interesting is most fascinating. Wander through the cemetery and read the stories of some of the original settlers on the island.

Redfish is known for its spring and summer snook fishing.
Passed through 3/24/16 on way to south seas resort. Boat draft 4'. South seas website instructions for going through redfish pass helpful. Also called marina office for update. Least amount of water I saw was 8 feet. We had no problem. Clearly it's shallow outside the channel. Pay attention and use the instructions.

Porpoises will eat the fish you release at Captiva Pass.
We spent a week on North Captiva with our family. About 12 other families from our high school rented various houses on the island and we had a terrific time on our tropical island! Barnacles and the Pool Bar had great casual meals, the water was clear and warm. Would definitely return.

I love it when I am on vacation to bring back a piece of art or a sculpture to remember my trip and this is my go to place on Sanibel and Captiva. Very unique and pretty pieces to purchase

The crab man was rude a the family show. Mostly to older women I was pushed by him and could have fell back to a stone fireplace which had a small boy and mother there. I could have hurt the boy. Then he came back at me and pulled a curtain fill speed by the side of my head. At first I thought it must be a joke. We left the show. Now looking back at it all we should have left that minute and call the police

The best day of your vacation will be spent cruising aboard your private sailing sloop, the New Moon ...The New Moon is a beautifully appointed, fully equipped 39 ft. sailing vessel with full facilities and enclosed head for your comfort. You'll see the islands from the fresh and exciting perspective of Gulf and Bay waters, the dolphins with their perpetual smiles, swimming beside the boat, the manatees barely showing themselves and the sea otters playing around the docks are all just a part of our world.
Spent an afternoon sailing with the good Captain and it was a blast. He really knows his business and included us all in the fun of it. He is a fountain of knowledge about sailing, wildlife, the area and all it has to offer. Throw in local history too. Bottom line - this is a fun sail and you are made to feel most welcome on his boat. Dolphins (Captain Mick came about in an instant to get us closer), to admire and osprey fishing all around us.
This is not pinkies out sailing. It's roll up your sleeves (a bit) and learn a thing or two about the wonder, to have the wind at your service. Can't wait to go again. I would think kids would be in heaven on this boat and with Captain Mick. Did I mention? He's funny as hell. Enjoy.

The small museum inside the wonderful library is a facsimile of an historic wheel house. It houses an extraordinary video of the historic ferry that was the lifeline before bridge as well as many photos of times gone by. Well worth a stop for the museum as well as the library and chapel next door.
