A beautiful and special stave church. Kvernes stave church, dating from approx. 1300 AD., is one of the youngest of the Norwegian stave churches. Located with a magnificent view over the Kvernes fjord and the Frei fjordtwo fjords. Inside choir screen with crucifix and royal monogram, baroque pulpit, painted acuantus decarorations. The altarpiece is from 1475. On Nordmore there are two stave churches, one at Kvernes and also Grip stave church on the small island of Grip. At Kvernes, guide service is available and it is highly attractive for visitors, also larger groups. Open daily during summer. Next door you will find Old Kvernes Rural Museum and the more recent Kvernes church (1893) is also located nearby. Exit the RV64 by Bruhagen towards Kvernes.

Local tourist information for the Atlantic Road.
Fantastic drive. One of the greatest I have seen. Worth quite a detour. I assume this drive will be best in sunshine or in a storm. On a normal rainy day like we had it was ok. We could see the potential with different weather. Highly recommendable

Eldhusøya is a small island which has a good elevated hiking path, so that it is accessible for all ages. The cafe gives shelter i bad weather and is a good place for a coffee, ice cream or something small to bite in. Five toilets and one of them is open all day.

The large cave is located on the southern side of Bremsneshatten mountain. Many finds from the almost 10,000-year-old Fosna culture have been made there. The cave is Norway’s largest, extending 80 metres into the mountain. In bygone days, people believed that the cave was a hiding place. They therefore believed that the remains found there were those of outlaws and people who had been shipwrecked. Only recently have we begun to appreciate the extent to which the cave was used in ancient times. Dramatic legends have been spun around the Bremsneshola cave, like so many other caves.
