Which was 24Aug. Rather a heavy snow season I suspect was the cause of this disappointment. October would be my recommendation. The physics of this phenomenon is well laid out on the board next to the river. The outflow siphon capacity has to be greater than the inflow river flow else the reservoir just fills up and the thing flows continuously.
Takes about 10-15min to walk the 3/4 mile to get there. 5 milea of gravel road to the TH.

We were passing through Afton early in the morning and stopped to take a picture and walk around the town. Unfortunately, many of the stores opened later (10am) so we couldn't go inside. Loved the arch. Great pictures to send to grandkids.

We had the opportunity to visit this lovely temple during its open house. It was easy to find (right off the main road) coming into Afton from the south. We had a chance speak with the locals and learn about their LDS temples that are world wide as well as some of the religious aspect of the LDS faith. Along with our daughters, we were allowed to walk around in a controlled tour with hundreds of other people and see the beautiful rooms and features of this "mini" temple as they call it. We are proud that we had this opportunity to go during this time, as it is now closed to the general public. However, they told us that visitors are always welcome to walk around the temple grounds and take photos.

the popularity of this family owned cafe is becoming legend. We were the third coach stopped here for a morning break. The English tea is the best in this part of the world and the home-made biscuits and chocolates an ideal compliment a lol at reasonable prices.

Feathered Hook offers access and guided trips on premiere, private fishing waters of Wyoming, including the Green River, Greys River,Salt River, Spring Creek Meadows, Hams Fork, and Smith's Fork.
Me and my two teenage girls came to Wyoming for an amazing trip with Feathered Hook and we weren't disappointed. The cabins where beautiful and clean. Just what you'd want in a cabin with all the furnishings. Our favorite was the Deadmans Ranch cabin nestled in the mountains. The Spring Creek cabin was just as beautiful and closer to town.
Our guide Erik Floyd was wonderful! He was very knowledgeable in the art of fly fishing and a great teacher. He was kind and patient with us being our first time fishing.
Feathered Hook is a very professional and reputable fly fishing company and I would recommend it to anybody looking for a great adventure or a relaxing mountain getaway. Good for beginners like me and my girls or pros looking for a new place to fish!

Since there is not a lot to do in Afton, we wandered downtown and found this great business. Not only is there a variety of interesting western furniture, there are unusual small gifts. The owner recommended the huckleberry honey and not only were we not disappointed, we went back for more the next day.

Valli Vu Golf Course is a Johnny Miller design, 18 hole course sitting against the Salt River Mountain Range in Afton, WY.
It is compact and tight, but that's not a bad thing in this case. Beautiful mounding gives variety and distinction to each hole and separates the fairways, and the course plays quickly. We played 18 holes in 3 hours, walking. The walk was easy, and this little course is a blast. The greens are big, undulating tournament greens that constitute the best part of the course.
Obviously it's run by the municipality, so don't expect immaculate conditions, but its well-taken care of and the greens are in great shape. Bunkers show neglect, but that's expected with small town crew.
Not busy, fun, and dirt cheap. Don't drive by without stopping to play a quick round or two. Right next to great accommodations. Stay and play; make golf part of what you do in this beautiful town.

Even though the weather conditions (windy) were not the best for fly fishing, we still had a great day on the Snake River with our guide, Greg! Greg was personable and knowledgeable about not only fly fishing, but about the area also! Will definitely book another trip with Greg when we return to Jackson!
