Excellent memorial to Veterans! Have been yo several functions there and they are always very moving. The PB Vietnam Veteran Assc does a great job. The Huey is a great reminder of the reason for the memorial!!

Love visiting both of Susie's Midland stores to sample the goodies and bring home an arrangement of chocolates and toffee.

Welcome to the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum. Founded in 1975 by over 500 community leaders under the leadership of George T. Abell, the Museum tells the story of petroleum and the rugged lives of men and women who sought a better life. What started as a community dream has, over time, become the nation's largest museum dedicated to the petroleum industry and its pioneers. The Petroleum Museum has welcomed over one million visitors worldwide. It shares the petroleum and energy story and its impact on our daily lives through educational programs, interactive exhibits, an archives center and its Petroleum Hall of Fame. A visit to the Petroleum Museum is an amazing journey through over 230 million years of history. Located in the heart of the Permian Basin, the Petroleum Museum offers over 40,000 square feet of interactive education and entertainment for adventurers of all ages. The mission of the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum is to share the petroleum and energy story and its impact on our lives.
Very interesting place to explore. Indoor scene has fascinating stuff to discover. Outside are trails that lead to oil field scenes from way back in history. Lots of old antiques from oilfield from way back in the old times and progressive to more modern stuff. Pretty cool experience.

As a lifelong Midlander. I cannot say enough about how little there is to do here and how little natural beauty exists. This area is a natural playa that basically functioned as an area to catch flood waters. I'm ranking it 5 stars for Midland. I'm sure outsiders who are from plush surroundings would think nothing of it, but I can promise you it's like the Garden of Eden compared to Midland. I've been coming out here since 2008, before it was open to the public. It's about a 1.45 mile loop with a hawk tower, boardwalk, butterfly garden, and several bird blinds. The main playa lake is heavily dependent on temps and rainfall. There were times it was almost completely dried up circa 2011. Over the past few years there has been enough rain to keep it fairly steady. The north side pond stays pretty constant and has a bird blind facing it. You're likely to see tons of rabbits out here along with the occasional roadrunner. I've been out here well over 100 times and I've never seen a snake or a bobcat. I'm bummed about the bobcat and happy about the snake. A major complain is the road noise and surrounding oilfield activity. This can be distracting, but doesn't take much away from why an outlier this is for our area. It closes on Mondays and is typically open 8 to 8 in the summer and 8 to 6 in the winter. It is free and a great way to get away for locals. Be prepared for photographers since this is one of the most heavily vegetated areas in Midland. It can get a little frustrating when they are taking up the entire boardwalk for a picture, but the photographers are always gracious and apologize and move out of your way.

I wrote a review back in 2015 and I’ve been again and it is stunning! You must revisit if you haven’t been in awhile! It’s been renovated and right now during the holidays, it is just STUNNING!! Don’t miss the Derby room with our own 2 Derby winners from 1959 and 1987 and all the memorabilia, trophies, etc! And the art rooms are full of beautiful pieces. The planetarium has great shows, and the kids will love the children’s museum. There is the farmers market and activities year round. Check the calendars for events or just go experience the mansion built in the 30’s. It’s really beautiful.
