Lobosonda - Madeira Whale Watching

Our mission is to provide clients with a special experience raising awareness and understanding of the entire marine biodiversity of Madeira. There is one rule that we always keep in mind: We are the guests out there so we need to behave accordingly! We believe that our work is far more than a source of income and are committed to the Ocean and all its marine biodiversity. As a thank you for all the beautiful sightings of marine mammals, we had over the past years, the Lobosonda team works with heart and soul daily on ocean issues and its protection. We will take you into the “blue office” a beautiful and sensitive workplace. In the Ocean there are also laws that apply, the most important one: respect! Each species has a different character, varies their behaviour and the daily condition of the animals also plays a role on each sighting. Therefore we cannot guarantee sightings on every sailing but, our team does their best daily.

Lagoa do Vento

Reviewed By kristofkesteloot - Zottegem, Belgium

What a perfect walk! Starting at the parking lot of rabacal. But instead of following the herd of people, we took the road to Alecrim. After some time the trail splits in half. Either you follow the levada do Alecrim, or you go way down to lagao do Vento. We´ve chosen the way down, and it was worth it! It´s a lot of stairs to go all the way down. But what you see is one of the most amazing places in Madeira. It is like a fantasy spot... The way back you can choose to go back up or take the path to the rabacal house.

Pukiki Tiki Bar

Madeira's first and only tiki bar, celebrating the historical link between Madeira and Hawaii. Located in Estreito da Calheta, Pukiki Tiki Bar brings you the biggest selection of rum in Madeira, tiki and classic cocktails. Madeira is known as the Hawaii of Europe. In the late 1800s many Madeirans set sail for Hawaii to work in the growing sugar cane industry. Madeira already had a long history of sugar cane production and a very similar sub-tropical climate to Hawaii which made Madeirans ideal workers for this job. They became known as Pukiki to native Hawaiians and influenced Hawaiian culture in many ways, most famously by introducing the Ukulele (known as machete in Madeira) and malassadas. Pukiki Tiki Bar celebrates the link between the islands. We are passionate about all things tropical, mid-century Polynesian Pop, Tiki cocktails and Rum based drinks made from sugar cane. Join us and share the aloha spirit!

Great little tiki bar that gets all the details right: the right music, the right drinks, the right atmosphere. No surprise as the staff is clearly passionate about everything tiki. There's even a direct history link (Madeira and Hawaii) that you can read up on while lounging on the roof terrace and sipping cocktails made with some of the best rums in the world. Definitely a winner.

Calheta Beach

Reviewed By C5769OQstevek - Milton Keynes, United Kingdom

Theres 3 sandy beaches on Madeira, where golden sand as been brought in from Morroco. My wife and I spent the whole day (Thursday) at Calhata beach. Weekends can get very busy on the sandy beach. So go for any other day(s) for space and enjoyment. Can recommend the Savoy cafe bar next to beach for drink and smacks. Water nice and calm and safe for families to enjoy. Also as lifeguards in attendance on the beach.
