Derby Arena & Velodrome

Derby Arena is located on Derby’s Pride Park next to the iPro Stadium. Development of the £27.5 million Arena heralds the most exciting and important changes to leisure facilities in Derby in the last 40 years, as part of Derby City Council's Leisure Strategy. The new arena is primarily a space for sports and physical activity; however it also serves as a venue to host cultural events, exhibitions, product launches and conferences, and as such, is able to hold up to 5000 people.

I'm just back from my first ever attempt at track cycling. Wow, It was superb! The coach was amazing (Simon). I was expecting to sit on a bike and cycle a little as I hadn't even used cleats before. Nope. After a safety briefing you get out on the bikes. The coach builds your confidence super quickly but is watching and looking after everyone. Absolutely fantastic. Great staff and a great experience! It was £16.10 for an hour and just over £6 for shoe hire. The hire shoes and bikes were in good condition and parking was free on a Sunday. Top tip, bring a water bottle as the air con dries your throat a little as you cycle.

Our ten year old grandson is an accomplished swimmer for his age and visits a wide variety of venues via league swimming in another area of the UK. When he visits us we ensure the activities includes some swimming sessions and his preferred venue is this pool. As non-swimmers these days, we also prefer to take him to this pool; excellent location, super car park, good café, and an excellent viewing area. We have also been impressed by the attentive staff supervising the use of the pool with frequent on the job changeovers to maintain alertness.
