Museo de Arte Religioso Porta Coeli

The former convent chapel, built in 1606, is the second oldest church in Puerto Rico, the first school in the west and one of the oldest in the Americas. It is also the most important religious art museum of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture.

Church of Porta Coeli

Built by Dominican monks in 1606, this “Gate of Heaven” served as a town jail in the 19th century, and is now a small museum displaying carved wooden religious figures.

This beautiful residence is the perfect representation of the Victorian style structure of the 20th century, influenced by the North American architecture. It was built by Juan Baron Capriles, an architect from San German, for the Don Tomas Vivoni Family. Today, it serves as a home and a wondrous garment placed in front of the Porta Coeli Church, making it a desired place to visit.

This historical structure has witnessed centuries of San German's growth. It was built in 1737 to replace the ruined ancient church. Today, it is a remodeled catholic church decorated by a breathtaking chandelier from 1869.
