Edenton is a town on Albemarle Sound in Chowan County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,004 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Chowan County. Edenton is located in North Carolina's Inner Banks region. In recent years Edenton has become a popular retirement location and a destination for heritage tourism.

we were pleasantly surprised to find it open and two volunteers were in the home, one did the first floor the other the second floor. very informative and enjoyable, very knowledgeable about the house and town. the 2nd floor guide allowed us to go into the cupola for a very nice view of edenton

If you've never been to Edenton, I highly suggest stopping by the Penelope Barker House and getting tickets for the Trolley tour. There is so much history in this little town and the guides in both the Welcome Center and Trolley were so sweet and knowledgable!

The 1767 Chowan County Courthouse is often referred to as one of the finest examples of Georgian Colonial architecture. A North Carolina State Historic Site, you can visit the 1767 Chowan County Courthouse from Tue-Sat and take a guided tour to learn about it's history. The Courthouse is run by Historic Edenton State Historic Site, located at 108 N. Broad Street.

The 1886 Roanoke River Lighthouse is a historic museum managed by North Carolina State Historic Sites. It is open from Tue-Sat, 10-4 for guided docent tours. The Historic Edenton Visitor's Center manages the lighthouse and is located at 108 N. Broad Street.

The Edenton Steamers are a summer collegiate baseball, and have been a member of the Coastal Plain League since 1998. The Steamers are three time Petitt Cup Champions, winners in 2004, 2005, and 2015. You are guaranteed to have fun with the whole family at Historic Hicks Field.
