Alaska is divided into five regions: far north, interior, southwest, south central, and inside passage. Although it takes a long time to see the entire state, you can travel through the regions by boat, car, bus, or plane. Hike through the mountains, or venture out on a deep sea fishing or whale watching excursion. Get in touch with nature by camping in the wilderness, or experience your preferred degree of class and luxury in the beautiful, active cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks.

The wildlife sanctuary draws a crowd - a crowd of song and shore birds, moose and waterfowl. Featuring easy walking nature trails that lead to Wander Lake and Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge. Off the trailhead of the sanctuary is the Taiga Center that features free Alaskan movies for resort guests during the summer on the 14 foot big screen. Visit the trailhead kiosk outside the Taiga Center for trail maps and Bird Checklist.
It's a nice place for a nature walk and birdwatching, close to town and in the safe area. It's an easy walk, kids and aged people will be comfortable here.

A beautiful hike to gorgeous views over Whittier and Passage Canal. As an avid Alaska hiker, I wouldn't call this an "easy hike" as I've seen on other reviews (you are climbing up most of the way), but I would say it is generally enjoyable for anyone in decent hiking condition. The first portion of the hike is much easier than after it turns uphill (and you are left to do a little bit of route-finding). In late July, we got to experience berry picking (both salmonberries and blueberries) and some up-close bear viewing (with a contented black bear munching on trail side blueberries). The planks make for a pretty easy time through through what could be wet conditions. As a previous comment stated, there is basically no signage on the trail. And it doesn't really need any ... there is one trail and you can't really get lost. Pretty much Alaska hiking.

Popular place for hiking. Nice trail. Trail is easy to easy/moderate. We actually saw a bear while hiking!
