The pinguiens was there, but few and no other animals. All such activities are two expensive in Argentina and Chile, too expensive for the locals also, and to many restrictions on movements. These tours have been the only downs on our three months trip to A and C. In my country you do not pay to visit national parks. No gusto.
Officially the driest desert on the planet, Atacama is an all year-round destination. Summer days definitely get sizzling hot whilst nights keep a constant low temperature due to the altitudes. The Altiplanic winter consists of afternoon downpours with plenty of electrical storms. Sometimes heavy rains in January and February and snow fall during July and August. Did this trip in February. To sum it up it consists of 11 hours in a minivan to visit three churches in Chiloe, none of them is interesting unless you are an academic interested in the technical details of wooden church building in the mid 19th century. However good the guides are (and our guide was excellent) this piece of Chile is not worth visiting. The drive to Castro in Chiloe island comprises a 70km motorway run to a ferry and then more than two hours driving along a scruffy, semi industrialised road with no redeeming features to Castro. On arrival the only logical question is "why bother". There are so many beautiful places in Chile I would suggest that people give this excursion a swerve and prevent the total waste of a day of their lives.
Beautiful Road trip that takes you in the vastness of Chile. An adventure in 4x4 extreme lands. Strong contrast between the different altitudes and thermo-environmental levels. Flight from the capital of Chile to the north of the country. And then in jeep entry and exit from Bolivia, through high-altitude border crossings. The journey is often done within Natural Reserves considered national monuments. On the path you can improvise walks on paths that allow you to deepen the discovery of primeval territories. And then the final dive: 4500 meters panoramic routedown to the sea, to dinner with sea lions on the pier.
Inclusions: Lunch, Dinner, Dinner, Private transportation
Exclusions: Airport/Departure Tax
We booked a return tour from San Pedro Atacama to Uyuni salt flat. Overall the tour was amazing. We were lucky to have Wilson as our guide. He was driving carefully, giving a lot of info about the sights (in Spanish only), and he is also good at taking photos, which was useful at the salt flats. Communication prior to the tour was good too, Gabriel was always available to answer our questions. The slight downside was dealing with addional requests. Another couple from our group didn't get the private bathroom they paid for. The change of the driver in Uyuni, after the main part if the tour was finished, was a bit of unpleasant surprise. If you join this tour pack soap, sanitiser and toilet paper, as hygenic facilities are basic.

Our trip to San Pedro de Atacama, with wife and two friends, was one of our best ever. Much of this great success was thanks to the wonderful day tours (we did 6 of them) and experience provided by SORBAC. We had time to enjoy each of the attractions, very good information (from Culture to Nature) to learn a lot. Food was great as well, and the staff was super friendly!! Thanks a lot!
