Bob hope house

My day was sunny and bright with a light breeze. Made for a perfect day for this hike. Narrow trails and everyone was very mindful of wearing a mask as I passed. The flow of the trail was just perfect for my not so good knees.

VillageFest

The place to meet new friends is at this old-fashioned street fair with sidewalk performers, musicians, farmer's market, gifts and lots of food.

I happened upon this Palm Springs experience a few months ago, and have repeated it ever since. It's very pleasant walking down the main street among arts and crafts, good stands, a mini farmers market, locals walking their dogs, and a village atmosphere on a large scale. I specially like the tiles/coasters made from retro posters and have started a collection. They can be found at stelladivina.com. These and other excellent arts and crafts make it worth spending at least a couple of hours browsing, and sampling some of the street food while mingling with the locals and tourists.

Our Lady of Solitude Church

I prefer the smallness of this church. They offer English and Spanish mass. I am not a regular church goer but when I feel the need to praise God and connect with my childhood Catholic upbringing, this is a good fit for me. Considering all the bad news about bad priests, I find this little church comforting. The pastor and the people seem genuinely concerned with social problems here in the Coachella Valley as well. One Sunday evening mass they even had a group of Mexican congregants selling home cooked Tacos and other treats after mass. A nice touch to connect with our diverse community and break bread so to speak ... unlike some churches that regularly serve donuts! This was much more fun!

The Frey House II is a mid-century modern gem perched on the mountainside overlooking Palm Springs! Every detail of the home was well thought out and was designed to blend with the Palm Springs Landscape. The house is 800 square feet, but feels much larger due to the design and the connection between interior and exterior. Our docent Barbara explained all the wonderful nuances of the home, and even had personal stories about Albert Frey who lived in the house until he passed away November 14, 1998. Well work the visit if you get the chance!
