Although much of Jacksonville is urban, this sprawling northeastern Florida city also has nature and wildlife preserves, historic residential neighborhoods and lots of golf courses. Attractions in Jax, as the locals call it, range from art, science and history museums to a brewery tour, from the Jacksonville Landing entertainment complex, along the St. John's River, to Bronson Motor Speedway. The city's beaches offer soft sand and warm water perfect for swimming, surfing and kayaking.

I actually live in Jacksonville, Florida where Riverside and Avondale areas are located. This is a very walkable historic district that has beautiful homes, from bungalow to gorgeous mansion homes dating back to 1900. You will find independent restaurants (and yes a Starbucks)Brewtoriums and unique gift shops from gourmet and spice foods, ice cream, clothing stores. This area is about 2 square miles that skirt the St Johns River and two distinct shopping areas... You can easily make it a weekend from going from one area, to the other. You will also find a few Bed and Breakfast to make your experience feel like home. On Saturdays the RAM, Riverside Art Market takes place from 10-3, with food trucks, live entertainment, and local art vendors. Enjoy your time in the Riverside/Avondale area.
