Mount Broke Wines & Restaurant

Established in 1997 Mount Broke Wines has defined Shiraz quality in the Broke Fordwich/Hunter Valley Region across the last decade. Our low yielding single origin vineyard operates with a focus on producing small batches of premium wines. The range also includes fine examples of Semillon, Verdelho, Chardonnay and Barbera. Take in the beautiful outlook of the Brokenback Range whilst enjoying one of our delicious menu options for lunch. Relax in the friendly atmosphere of cool music with a drink from our European beer list, a Gin and Tonic or a Vodka. Mount Broke Wines also provides the perfect venue for weddings and functions.

Everything about this restaurant was perfection. On a beautiful sunny day in the Hunter Valley, why would you sit inside? We hadn't been there before, it was so delightful we are already planning our next visit. Very rustic, tables set up on a green lawn. Food and wine were outstanding, the service was friendly and perfect. It was a hidden gem! I can highly recommend this restaurant.

Running Horse Wines

A cellar door like no other! Opened May 2018, built from shipping containers combining weathering steel, rock, glass, timber & copper. One of the Hunter Valley’s best kept secrets, Running Horse Wines, run by the unassuming Dave Fromberg, is a must for any serious wine taster. Tucked away from the corporate end of town, you need to keep your eyes peeled or you might miss it, although the jump out barriers in the front paddock help. Dave is as generous with his time as he is with his knowledge of wines and creates a relaxed and friendly environment, in his cleverly designed tasting area, regardless of who walks through the door. He has a sensational range of reds - my favourite being the 2011 - and his amazing life experiences will keep you enthralled as you work you way through the collection. We will be back!

The wine school at Huntervalley Resort in Pokolbin NSW is well worth the visit for anyone wanting to round out their knowledge of the process of wine making from grape to cellar door tasting. David led us through a light hearted presentation for approximately 1hr that was comprehensive without being too complex. Plenty of opportunity for questions and David threw in some great bits of unusual knowledge. We then went through to the cellar door tasting where Elouise led us through a wonderful array of wines and how to correctly taste and identify different varieties. We were bursting with questions which the staff answered very capably. I would thoroughly recommend the wine school to anyone touring the cellar doors and wanting to know more about wine varieties. Thankyou David and Elouise for your interest and patience in our enthusiastic questions.

Scott hosts a great tasting and should consider a side gig as a stand up comedian/trivia master in his free time.

A must see winery, Vamps is not like other wineries starting with the look, Lisa has done a spectacular job of the look from the moment you walk in, wine tasting with place mats that you can write on for keeping track of the best wines,( which are all her wines), the staff know there wines and have been well trained. we returned to Vamps again before we left the Hunter and will also return again soon
