We had a warm, helpful and informative welcome at the Lynton visitor centre - well organised re COVID precautions - and saw 3 osprey before tea time on our first day at Rutland Water. At the end of the visit we noticed the mini season ticket, for 4 visits to the reserves over 10 days, and the volunteer helpfully let us top up to this from our day ticket. That let us have a return visit to Lynton & two x half days at the other reserve. Lovely settings, very peaceful, and we still didn't get round to all of the hides. One highlight was a heron, fairly close, demonstrating how to line up and swallow a trout.

Rutland Water covers 4,200 acres of open countryside. The park offers everything from walking and cycling to fishing and watersports. There is also our fantastic nature reserve, managed by the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust and home to the Rutland Osprey Project. Expert or novice, everything you need to make the most of your visit is right here, including cycle hire and expert tuition on boat handling. And of course, you will also find a choice of places to enjoy a cuppa or a bite to eat.
Lots of people visit every year come rain or shine, we li e here and its a great pleasure to walk a around, lovely scenery and great parks for kids, you can even take a boat trip from one side to the other, the church is a must see, also there are quaint little pit stops with beverages available at reasonable prices

Collection of birds of prey located in 42 acres ancient woodland
Despite a wet day this was one of the most enjoyable few hours I spent in a while. My wife and I opted to pay extra for the woodland walk with one of the birds - my wife took an Eagle Owl and I took a Harris Hawk (although we had to walk a few metres apart - the birds don't get on). Our humorous and engaging guide, Tom, gloved us up, showed us how to befriend, handle and stroke our birds, and guided us on our woodland walk, all the while providing interesting information on the birds and the centre, as well as answering and questions. Hour long walk (with a break for a sit down) over, we then had the opportunity to have these birds fly to us to take food from our hands. It was lovely to be so close to these majestic birds. We then rounded off our visit by walking around the various enclosures viewing the birds the centre looks after. It has to be said the focus of the centre is on looking after the birds rather than flashy visitor facilities - somewhere to wash your hands and a portaloo in the car park were all you can expect, but if you fancy refreshments I can recommend the tearoom at Barnsdale Gardens, 5 mins drive away. The centre has done all that can reasonably be expected to be COVID-secure, and for an interesting and diverting few hours you could do worse that pay the centre a visit.

We had a fantastic experience with Simon & Sue. They were both so friendly and welcoming. Simon was so knowledgable & the environment was lovely where the birds are kept. Handling the birds was amazing!!! We had several go’s each. We held 5 different birds each and it was a surreal experience. We had a private 121 experience for two hours and payment was simple. This is a special experience and We can’t recommend Simon & his wonderful birds of prey enough. It’s a lovely day to experience and we would be definitely be coming back with family.

Voted the UK’s Best Garden to Visit 2018/19, Barnsdale Gardens is an essential visit whether you are a gardener or not. Famed as the home of the BBC Gardeners’ World TV programme it has been dubbed ‘a theme park for gardeners’ because of its uniquely designed collection of 38 individual, yet realistic, small gardens that guide you round this 8 acre site. We have a great variety of garden areas, ranging from traditional English cottage gardens, to wildlife, Japanese and French, as well as spaces for growing vegetables and fruit. Our focus is on environmental and ecological gardening, so we garden using organic and peat-free principles. There are numerous courses and events running throughout the year, as well as our Summer Sundays taking place during July and August. Then there's our fabulous Chelsea Flower Show, Gold Medal-winning plant nursery to tempt you, while our Tea Room, serving locally sourced and freshly prepared food, is there to feed and revitalise you.
Visited again fantastic place to visit for ideas for your own garden, staff are always on hand and very helpful regarding plants.Had a good walk round viewing all the separate gardens. Had lunch once again and as usual it was excellent and at a reasonable price. Well worth a visit. Also caters for people who wish to get married.

I visited Bugtopia today with my brother and partner. We were slightly apprehensive beforehand about being a group of adults in case it was geared towards little kids but we needn't have worried! We received a lovely welcome and enjoyed a packed schedule of feeding times and interactive experiences which were led by a really knowledgeable member of staff. We saw a lot of animals that we hadn't seen before despite being keen zoogoer's (particular favourite was the armadillo!). In response to some of the reviews that state that they only took 10/15 mins to walk round - as with eveything, the experience is what you make of it. We easily spent 2 hours here and thought it was excellent value for money. We look forward to returning again to experience some of the feeding times that we missed today. Thanks!
