The soundtrack of tranquil Boa Vista is the sweet tweets of exotic birds. Maybe they’re chattering with loggerhead turtles or with the humpback whales that are known to splash around Boa Vista’s shallow waters. Work up a sweat and hike to the wreck of the Santa Maria, or explore the Duque de Braganca Fort, built to protect the Ilheu de Sal Rei from pirates. The windswept red and tan sand dunes of Deserto de Viana are awe-inspiring.

We travelled here on a quad tour and wow what an absolutely amazing place! Chrystal clear, warm se water and stunning soft white sand as far as the eye can see. My wife and I walked a little away from the group and it was easy to imagine we were the only people alive in the world, totally peaceful and beautiful, what an experience. We have been to many beaches throughout the world including the Caribbean, this is the best of the lot.

The beach is one of the nicest I’ve ever seen and the sea is amazing the only time we got to go in the sea as the riu toureg is red flag.

Perola d'Chaves is a lovely beach bar close to RIU Palace hotel. Feels like a hidden place - sunbeds, parasols, or tables. They serve good coffee! Also a place where you can eat. Not easy to reach, but after a lovely beach walk, it is a fantastic place to enjoy a drink, a meal, a coffe and to swim or tan on the beach. For Western European standards the prices are not high. But for us, coming from a poorer country, it is a bit pricy.

Not something we see very often - a mini desert only a few kilometres from where we were staying on the island. Beautiful untouched (apart from our jeep and a few quad bikes) sand dunes. A must visit if you are visiting Boa Vista!

When you are on Boa Vista between november and april, this beach is covered by nearest island. Thats why there are no waves due windy season. The beach is safe for small children. With White sand and water under knees.

Had the chance to see the shipwreck while here, next year might be the last chance to view this historical site before the sea takes it for good, worth a visit while it is still here.
