We spent 2 weeks vacation in this spa hotel. We had been here 11 years ago, just when it was opened and it still looked like a new hotel. Very impressive timeless choices for interior decoration and architecture. This is a smaller hotel and there is not any night entertainment, which was perfect as we spent our time hiking (lot of options around) and enjoying good food and wine! We were well taken care of by Laura and her colleagues! We had half-board and definitely didn't regret that decision. Food was amazing and the wine selection very good. Breakfast was also good - lot of variety. Couple of suggestions to improve: coffee machine in the room would have been a good add. Also the drapes were difficult to manage when keeping the doors open during the night (there is no aircon, but it is not needed as the temps usually drop nicely during the night). Definitely recommend this place and we will be back!

This is a traditional looking small Austrian hotel with an extraordinarily attentive and welcoming owner/host. The rooms are basic, in a charming way, with large windows and lovely views, comfortable beds and their own balconies. There’s plenty of hot water for a great shower after a day of hiking. Breakfast is included with all the traditional offerings- great rolls, pastries/croissants, yogurt, meat and cheese, eggs, homemade jam, hot chocolate and more. Dinner is also available with an extensive menu that is not traditional German/Austrian food- amazing gourmet burgers, pizzas, chef’s salads, etc. We came in early September to hike in the nearby national park and were able to access excellent trails with stunning views of the Grossglockner and surrounding mountains. The owner also arranged for us to get rapid Covid-19 tests at the local fire station after we told him we were going on to Italy. If we ever return to the area, we definitely would stay here again.

The Mühlenhof in Hopfgarten - in a quiet location and with a beautiful parc - invites you, to relax and recover. Thanks to the surrounding landscape and the incomparable mountains, its easy to leave everydays life behind. With its central position in osttirol, all the various attractions and sport facilities are easy and fast to reach. The high quality consciousness of the host family is also reflected in the 30 comfortable guest rooms. All of them are equipped with shower or bath, toilet, telephone, satellite TV, wireless Internet access and balcony.Half board in Mühlenhof means...a rich breakfast buffet and a 4-course evening meal including salad bar. Lovingly and with rich flavour prepared, the chef indulges your plate with regional and seasonal products.
A friendly welcome and pleasant, helpful service throughout our week at this quiet hotel in a pretty valley of the East Tyrol - an area little visited by British tourists. Although there are walks straight from the hotel, you need a car to access places of interest and the cable car stations which enable you to walk at higher levels. Comfortable and spotless refurbished room with spacious bathroom and flowery balcony [though no tea/coffee making facilities]. Meals were good rather than excellent, but enjoyable and included a salad buffet every evening - quite a plus in Austria. The nearby village has a good general store and a bank but no other facilities, so this is definitely not the place to go for night-life. But if you enjoy mountain scenery and a peaceful drink on the terrace in the evening, this hotel is an excellent choice.

The Plonerhof is a true active farm (during our stay a calf was born on the alm) - the owners are proud to introduce you to the farm and the animals. You can stay at a Bauernhof in comfort. The designs of the apartments is typical for the alps - all wood panels in a pleasant oldfashioned building. Everything is available for self catering to have a great holiday. The hosts are very friendly and go out of their way to help you. They make yoghurt - apart from offering milk , eggs etc.. from the farm . They are also a good source for local information. You can experience firsthand that life is demanding for alpine farmers - they have to work long days. www.hohetaurern.at is a great website and gives you all the information you need for planning your (walking) holidays. The park ranger led hikes are fairly new for Europe and quite a lot of fun. The Defereggen Tal is not overly developed from a touristical perspective - but we managed to eat well ( eg Pichler in nearby St Veit has a good choice of non- meat options on its menu)
