Totnes Museum is now open for 2019. This year we have three new exhibitions. We look forward to welcoming you to the Museum. The Totnes Elizabethan House Museum is a great way to spend a day out in Totnes, whatever the weather outside! What will you want to see? Our resident ghost? Our Elizabethan Herb garden? Our medieval kitchen? Our collection of medicines from the middle ages? Our spiral staircase made from a ship's mast? Or is it Totnes' illustrious son, Charles Babbage, who invented the first mechanical computer, whatever your interest in history is the Totnes Museum is a fascinating place to spend of few hours of your time.
A preserved Elizabethan house, this houses Totnes Museum. Popular with visitors because the museum holds a donation policy (other museums...take note.) Three floors covering the history of Totnes from pre-Roman times to the present day. Includes a herb garden at the back and a gallery especially dedicated to Charles Babbage, the man who laid the foundation for what was to become computer technology (just think: thanks to him we now have people who's whole lives are controlled by a mobile telephone when you see them walking and texting at the same time trying not to bump into people. Thanks Charlie! ????)

A fun and interesting local history museum on the main street in Kingsbridge where you can discover the history of Kingsbridge and the South Hams. The museum is based in the old grammar school and you can still see the marks the pupils left. The museum has a large social history collection including our farm gallery, showing the importance of agriculture to the area as well as changing displays and exhibitions focusing on a variety of aspects of local life. The museum also has quizzes, trails and an activity table for children all year round, plus events throughout the year. Check out our Facebook page for more details about events.
Fascinating museum packed with unusual and interesting artifacts. Housed in an old Grammar School which in itself is also interesting, with original "graffiti" scored in the wooden panelling by former schoolboys. There is also a delightful garden with an exhibit of historic agricultural machinery housed under a covered barn. Volunteers lovingly maintain the equipment. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff too! Recommended.

We always try and stop by the RNLI shops to show our support, this has to be one of the best we have been to, it’s obviously got the standard shop but the visitors centre part is great, telling stories of local lifeboat rescues aswell as the cut down former lifeboat that children can play on, and the dress up corner just adds to the experience. Our two year old daughter had a great time dressing up as a lifeboat crew and loved playing in the lifeboat pretending to be the captain! A really good idea whoever thought this up. As ever the staff and volunteers where friendly and informative, and the shop was well stocked.

I loved this little museum! We parked the car in Princetown & walked to the museum, but they do have a free car park. It’s a fascinating insight into the history of Dartmoor Prison, there are hundreds of exhibits, lots of fascinating articles from the old days to recent times & the lady on the ticket desk was very knowledgeable and friendly. I absolutely loved the time I spent there and would go again if I was in the area.
