The Rare Breeds Farm is a unique collection of rare and unusual breeds of domesticated farm animals, many on the brink of extinction and not on public displays any where else in the world. Come on down and take a tour of the farm and learn more about these interesting and rare animals.
Excellent and unique experience!! Will is so friendly and knowledgeable - not just the "rare breeds" but also the common animals. It is an eye opener with all the hardwork that he puts in, demonstrating his passion and enthusiasm in this field. It is an wonderful experience that I would strongly recommend. And the timing was perfect that we ended up having the opportunity to bottle-feed the gorgeous baby lambs! :)

We tried to make a booking for the beekeeping experience with short notice and although already full at their regular 1pm session they went out of their way to fit us in before a school group in the morning. I will be forever thankful to Shawn and Anthea for providing this wonderful opportunity for our children (and us) who are fascinated by bees and were super excited to get up close and eager to learn. Shawn was an excellent educator and tour guide, who found the right balance of information to engage the kids. Having the opportunity to suit up and see all the sections of the hives and see the bees at work was truly amazing. We were even fortunate enough to see some bees "hatch" as well as sighting the queen. Shawn really takes the time to ensure the kids get a really hands on experience and are able to savour their time with the bees. The cherry on top is the sampling of all their honeys at the end. If you get the chance to do this full tour, don't hesitate. Book today!

At the time of our visit, the farm was in full bloom prior to harvest. We were immediately hit with the calming scent as soon as we stepped from the car. The shop was well stocked with local produce, they served home made goods (the quiche was excellent), local wines and delicious desserts. Who knew there were so many varieties of lavender?! Lovely staff.

The honey farm is worth the drive through the beautiful canola fields alone. Greeted with friendly service and more info on the local unique Ligurian bees than I could take in. Amazing to see the bees in action too. Great local products on sale.

We loved our tour of the Oyster Farm which gave our family a great insight to the processes involved in farming Oysters at American River. The service was great and the staff gave you a 'real locals' insight into the history of the farm and the American River area. The Aqua Platter was AMAZING - well worth indulging yourself in what we thought was the best seafood we have ever had!!!! Well worth the trip whilst on Kangaroo Island.
