The Anglican Church is one of the buildings still existing from the British period in Mwanza and can be visited during daytime. On Sundays, the English-speaking service begins at 9 am. The old and smaller church building used by the British is not used for services anymore, services are now held in the newer and bigger church building near to the street.

The Heritage Centre therefore among other things aims at promoting tolerance, reconciliation and an inclusive society, bridging social and ethnic divides by telling the story of this dark chapter in the region’s history in an open and factual way. The creation of the Heritage Centre, and making it accessible to school children, who are the country’s future leaders, is also aimed to promote interfaith and inter-communal dialogue and understanding. Furthermore The Site is an important tourist destination, and by improving visitors’ facilities at the site and making it more informative and stimulating, the tourism industry as a whole will benefit, creating jobs and wealth, and helping to reduce poverty. The Heritage Centre among other things is also benefiting many people as it is a great opportunity to promote interfaith relations in Zanzibar.
though the tour was very interesting and good to know about the history and how ppl were treated, it was heart breaking to hear the stories and their suffering. going to the room they were trapped in to see its condition and relive it.

St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Roman Catholic, built by Germans more than 115 years ago, impressive architecture, outside and inside, with stained glass windows, the whole structure reminded me of churches in Germany. On 1 September 1990 Pope John Paul II addressed the faithful in this cathedral. I visited the cathedral on a Friday and surprisingly a church service was in progress. The cathedral is very well maintained.

Christ Church Cathedral was a part of our half day tour of Stone City. It's very important to recognise and maintain the history and this Anglican Cathedral is a great example of the dark past of the Zanzibar. This Cathedral is a part of Zanzibar's history and culture as well and that's why it is a must do things to visit in Zanzibar. Next to to the Cathedral is a monument to the slaves. It's also a great example of a slave market.
