Let me introduce myself My name is Andrew and i am the new owner of the Holroyd arms,i have worked here for the previous 3 years as a manager where my hands were firmly tied behind my back where making improvements to the business were concerned. as of October 2014 i became the owner of the business and have made massive strides in making customers visits here more enjoyable,i have addressed most of the issues raised on Trip advisor and am continuing to raise the standards throughout the business, that being said some of t6he reviews placed on this site are way over the top with their critic. If you need a clean, warm and comfortable nights stay for a small budget then we are your destination choice,we are a 2 star rated business and dont claim to be anything but that, but just because of our rating it dose not mean we dont make every effort to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately this platform is mainly used by customers who are inclined to complain,we are fully booked week after week and the percentage of complaints to non complaints is about 5% if all our happy customers were to write reviews i wouldnt need to justify myself. So please dont be put off by the old reviews on this site and see for yourselves THE HOLROYD ARMS is a pleasant B&B. ANDREW
I was visiting the holyroyd arms for my cousins birthday over the weekend. It started out as a fantastic afternoon seeing family after a long time until 8pm… when the middle aged men have a little too much to drink. When queuing for the bar trying to collect a round, when I started being verbally abused by a couple of men. I could hear them behind me shouting “fags” as I stand there with my partner. I had not realised there was another queue of people waiting to collect drinks, as I just saw an empty side of the bar. I was then grabbed by a man aggressively shouting in my face telling me to get to the back of the line. I didn’t think I needed to be screamed at thrown homophobic slurs. I apologise for pushing in, but then it just got worse. I was pushed on the shoulder by one of the younger waitress staff. As I turned she started pointing at me shouting “if you get beaten up, it’s not our problem you Pr*ck”. Which at this point I felt completely unsafe in this environment. Now I thought to myself “do the staff allow for these kinds of people to beat up gay people on the regular?”. After this moment I took the drinks and left the venue for my own safety. So if you see pictures… just because they had a drag queen performing does NOT make this venue inclusive.

We don't provide toiletries hence the price we charge. If you are looking for a clean and comfortable place to stay at a good rate with a pub that provides entertainment then we are the place to stay.We have live music 5 nights a week, Tuesdays are acoustic jam sessions, Thursdays are electric jam sessions, Fridays & Saturdays are rock bands and Sundays are audition nights for up and coming bands. We have a pool table, dart board and we show all the live sport on Sky Sports. We are a traditional pub that serves pub food. The breakfast in the morning if booked is a full english but if you require something different then please just ask.
I booked the single room for a 2 day work trip and would 100% use again. Exactly as described, small room with enough space for a single person, decent shared bathroom round the corner, ample parking and 15 minute drive from the cricket ground. It was electro night in the bar while I was there and while it was audible in the room it didn't bother me and it is clearly advertised that you are staying in a noisy pub so I expected no different. The building is old with all the creaks and bangs you'd expect and I had no issues with the other clientele. I didn't go into the bar but any staff I encountered were lovely and polite and the room was attended by housekeeping while I was out. Really don't understand the negative reviews below, and would politely suggest some of them are due to the guest not fully understanding what they were booking. I found it exactly as described and would definitely use again, thanks for the stay!

Visited with a few friends for an evening, short notice, Christmas "Do".... we did NOT book rooms/stay overnight. OK so reasonably good choice of beers, I love Moretti so that was a winner! Service from bar staff polite and friendly, food was absolutely acceptable. Burgers were £10/12 range and were £10/12 burgers, the sweet potato fries were VERY nice.... BUT Considering it was a Friday night the pub was VERY quiet, right from the start of the evening we found ourselves asking for the LOUD music to be turned down. Each time it crept up again. Now I totally understand the music thing in pubs, there ARE loud music pubs which are very popular and usually crowded, and if you are providing loud music FOR those customers then that's fine. However a lot of people, myself included, like to be able to have conversations WITH the people I'm out with, so I'd usually avoid loud pubs when socialising/dining. The opinion I got was the music wasn't to entertain throngs of youngsters, it was to entertain the 5 or 6 friends of the pub staff present? Most of the other customers were couples/groups talking. Maybe the pub IS usually rammed with youngsters and I've got it all wrong, we just hit it on a bad night, but with the location you're in, my bet is that if you aimed your service at the older customer and perhaps turned the music RIGHT down and put something other than Oasis* on, you might find Friday nights a bit busier? *I love Oasis, but not right in my ear when I'm eating a meal with friends trying to chat!
