Dated to about 1400 BC, this mysterious figure is carved into a chalk hillside just below an Iron Age hill fort and can only be seen in its entirety by air.
A perfect day for a visit - sunny with a breeze to keep us cool. There is a charge to use the car park though it’s free if you’re a National Trust member. I would not advise picnicking in the field on the walk from the car park. There will be sheep ticks!

A delightful long barrow situated within an atmospheric grove of trees. It is well worth taking the time to walk around this ancient place and absorb the tranquil atmosphere, and appreciate the silence. Accessible via a well posted mile long picturesque walk from the Uffington White Horse National Trust Car Park. Dog friendly, perfect picnic spots, unfortunately no toilets available. Note that car parking is free for National Trust Members or two pound charge for non members via ticket machine.

The area around the Abbey is spacious enough for a good walk. There is a car park conveniently, placed - make sure you get a ticket. The first two hours are free. The lanes around the Abbey are narrow thus retaining the atmosphere of the place. Within the medieval buildings, a small theatre has been constructed as well as a banquet hall. It is possible to hold a wedding at this venue. The theatre is charming, intimate and a real hidden gem. There are many other working areas within the Abbey and the time line makes fascinating reading. Access for wheelchairs and strollers would be limited in some areas of the Abbey. You can see the river from some of the windows. It does not take long to look around, but I thoroughly recommend that you take the time to incorporate this into a visit to Abingdon.
