Outstanding experience to hike in a beautiful setting and see monkeys in their natural habitat. Even the opportunity to feed them which was a lot of fun. Food provided was super cheap and staff very friendly.

We were a little alarmed by the admission fee (although I as a senior got a reduction) but in view of the whole experience, the price represented good value for money. This aquarium is big and has plenty of very big fishes including sharks and friendly manta rays. The latter you can actually stroke. As with so many modern zoos and plant collections, the emphasis is education on conservation and ecology. We were amazed to see a frogman in the big tank feeding the fish, caressing them and when a couple of mantas came up to seemingly protect him, this was an emotional moment. The small collection of jelly fish is a delight and the illumination makes them appear as living jewels. Not to be missed.

My daughter was tired of temples and shrines in Kyoto for two days, so we decided to end the visit with a sensual pleasure - a zoo. Kyoto zoo is small only 4 hectares and you can get around it in 2 hours. Although it celebrated a hundred years back in 2003, it looks modern. The secret is simple: the zoo was reopened in 2015 after renovation. Kyoto zoo captivates you even before you see the first crocodile and macaque. It wins the humane price. Admission fees are very good value at only 600 yen for adults, and free for children! The main zoo must see is available. The zoo’s collection contains all the “hits” like lions, tigers, jaguars, gorillas, chimpanzees, zebras, deer, llamas, Red pandas, elephants, hippos and giraffes. Birds are represented by ostriches, cranes, swans, ducks, flamingos, eagles, hawks, peacocks, Humboldt penguins. In addition to the international set of the same for Moscow, Munich, New York Bronx visit to the zoo in each country is an opportunity to see local animals. Japan is represented by Japanese raccoon dog (tanuki), Japanese macaques and bears. If you get thirsty or hungry, café and restaurant waits fro you. You can buy some souvenirs in the shop.
