The Eastern Cape is a province of South Africa. Its capital is Bhisho, but its two largest cities are Port Elizabeth and East London. It was formed in 1994 out of the Xhosa homelands of Transkei and Ciskei, together with the eastern portion of the Cape Province. Landing place and home of the 1820 settlers, the central and eastern part of the province is the traditional home of the Xhosa people.

5 star accommodation and service without a doubt. We stayed in the bush lodges near the waterhole. The rooms were spectacular as was the views as well as the staff. Being in the lodges away from the hotel is not a problem as the drivers are always around to take you back and forth. There are 3 game drives per day. We managed to see all the animals including lions, elephants and rhino's, wildebeest, giraffes and various bucks. The rangers were informative and entertaining. The food in particular was excellent and the reserve makes sure that you never go hungry. There are lions being bred in captivity as well and a fabulous game room for younger kids as well as a huge swimming pool. Thank you kwantu for providing us with good accommodation and halal food. The Venom Pit is one of Africa's largest snake parks situated 10km's from East London. Home to Africa's most deadly snakes as well as the worlds rarest. Our facility boasts a clean, fresh approach to the husbandry and care of our animals. Our friendly & efficient staff are there to educate and entertain our visitors about these amazing, fear inciting animals through interactive snake demonstrations
Wow... that was most incredible! Maybe we were a little bit lucky to be the only visitors at the time, but the very friendly lady from the pay window spontaneously decided to show us around. She had lots of interesting information on the snakes and other animals, but the best was yet to come: during our round through the snake park she and her very nice collegue, the snake keeper, gave us the opportunity to touch, pet and hold many of the animals. So we had more the close encounters with a Boa Constrictor, Burmese Python, turtles, baby crocodiles, bull frog and more! We and our kids loved it! This will be a long lasting memory and we can only highly recommend this little jem!

East London aquarium may be underwhelming if you compare it with big city aquariums like Cape Town or Durban. But, I think that the team do a great job with minimal funds, and there's always something interesting to see in the indoor exhibits, which are well-kept and cared for. I have particularly enjoyed watching the baby turtles grow from the size of a palm to nearly a foot in width. My 18-month-old daughter, Maia, loves the aquarium and is completely enchanted every time we go. The highlight for both of us is the outdoor section with the fur seal and African penguin displays; and Dylan, who has to be one of the most enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly staff members I have ever met, in any zoo or aquarium around the world. He always pays special attention to my daughter, even letting her pet a penguin whose name also happens to be Maia. His love for his job is evident, and infectious – people like Dylan are what this world needs if attitudes towards marine conservation are going to change. He is a real credit to East London Aquarium, and the reason we will keep coming back time and time again.
