Ptuj (pronounced [ˈptuːi̯] ( listen); German: Pettau; Latin: Poetovium/Poetovio) is a town in northeastern Slovenia that is the seat of the Municipality of Ptuj. Ptuj, the oldest recorded city in Slovenia, has been inhabited since the late Stone Age and developed from a Roman military fort. Ptuj was located at a strategically important crossing of the Drava River, along a prehistoric trade route between the Baltic Sea and the Adriatic. Traditionally the area was part of the Styria region and became part of the Austria-Hungarian Empire. In the early 20th century the majority of the residents were of German extraction, but today the population is largely Slovenes. Residents of Ptuj are known as Ptujčani.

We recently had the pleasure of joining a Chocolate and premium wines tour of Slovenia as a present for my wife’s 30th birthday. We had the most amazing time. Our guide Mojca was a lovely person. Friendly and knowledgeable she helped make the day extra special. We visited 2 local wine makers and not only were the wines absolutely delicious, the winemakers themselves were full of personality and their knowledge of wine is incredible. Being a private tour was great as it allowed us to get that personal touch that you can only have on a private tour. Oh I forgot to mention the homemade chocolates and gorgeous meats and cheeses we had as well. Is a day that we will never forget. Thank you so much Mojca, we hope to see you one day again soon. Kind regards, Macca and Katie

Loved it! Velenje Underground is quite an unusual experience. Having a fancy dinner 160 m below surface, combined with some artistic performance / music is really something »out of the box«. The idea behind this project was to elevate tourism in Velenje to a higher level, namely to create a memorable, 5 star experience for turists. This goes hand in hand with the vision of the tourist destination Slovenia… Slovenia as a green boutique global destination for high-end visitors seeking diverse and active experiences, peace, and personal benefits. A destination of five-star experiences.

We were 6 friends on our trip to Slovenia, only one weekend and wanted to sea as much as possible during this time, so we asked the City Concierge to make us some suggestions what to do and see, to make the most out of our short stay. They suggested us to join this tour the first day, and the second day we went all together to the Slovenian seaside. We had so much fun, at the end we visited Lake Bled, Postojna cave, Predjama castle, Piran, had a coffe in Trieste, Italy then joined Istrian olive oil tasting, tried some local goodies, went for Truffule hunting and tased some really great and amazing local wines. For us this was just amazing 2 days in Slovenia, the guys from the agency made us feel so welcome everywhere we went. They really did their best to make these 2 days unforgatable for us and we were so happy that we chose them to host us during our stay… We are already planning our Balkan tour together in Spring..can't wait..
The unique Ptuj carnival legacy, which is deeply rooted in the mystical pagan character of Kurent and many other characters. Wearing a mask is a part of the identity of the local population. That's why Kurentovanje is one of the ten most interesting carnivals in the world, and this year, on its 60th anniversary, the celebration will be particularly rich, so you should not miss it. Throughout the festival numerous events take place in the town’s vibrant squares and streets and its surroundings we will experience the authentic carnival atmosphere, learn about the Kurent story, see the old town, Ptuj Castle and ethnographic collection and visit the boutique wine cellar where, with culinary accompaniment, we will learn about the tradition of wine production in Styria. Combining these activities into a well-rounded carnival story will give us a unique and unforgettable carnival experience than anywhere else in the world.

I spent the day travelling around with my guide Michelle, and she made the whole experience something I will never forget. She took me to see many different sites from Lake Bohinj to Waterfall Savica to Lake Bled. However the main stops on the way were not all there was to see, it was as much about the journey as it was the destinations. Slovenia has some incredible sites to behold and the scenary all throughout the day left me blown away. Driving through the deepest vallies and up the tallest mountains, it was a real adventure the whole way. Due to the time of year and current events, we basically had every spot to ourselves without the hussle and bussle of noisy tourist spots and the benefit of this was how peaceful everything was. Michelle is an incredibly friendly and kind person, full of knowledge and experience of Slovenia that she shares with you in an enthusastic and engaging way, she is perfect company for the trip. This is an amazing day out which I highly reccomend to anyone visiting Slovenia. I will absolutely be coming back to stay at Lake Bohinj next year for a relaxing camping holiday. Thank you Michelle for touring me around Slovenia during my stay here. It has been one of the best ( or even, the best ) experience I have had travelling over the past few years.
