The bubbling, turquoise crystalline pools of Plitvice Lakes National Park comprise one of Croatia's most popular tourist destinations. Just a two-hour drive from Zagreb, the national park offers 50 acres of forest and lake. In winter, it's a wonderland of frozen waterfalls. In summer, the park is lush with greenery. Wooden walkways and hiking trails traverse the porous karst limestone. This World Heritage Site is a veritable wildlife haven, home to everything from birds to boars and even bears.

B&B Villa Sumrak is a family run Bed&Breakfast suitable for a pleasant stay for up to 14 people in 3 apartment, in all seasons. It is surrounded by meadows, medium sized mountain peaks and pristine forest. The air is rich with oxygen, and the deep silence is only occasionally interrupted by the sound of the running water from the Plitvica stream. This is an ideal destination for a getaway from everyday city life. Due to our geographical position and elevation of over 600 meters, after even the hottest summer days come cool nights that make perfect sleep possible. Our property also features a lovely outdoor common area where we serve breakfast on your request. As the Sumrak family we’ve been taking care of our guests since 2012 and we will gladly be of service to you as well, making sure your experience of the NP Plitvice Lakes is the best possible one. Given that there are many landmarks in the region we recommend staying for at least 2 days.
We spent 4 nights at Villa Sumrak, which was the last stop on our 2 week trip to Croatia. We truly saved the best for last. Let’s start with the usual stuff: - Room: quiet, spotless, comfortable, spacious. We had a sitting area and small kitchen in our room as well, but we didn’t make as much use of those spaces because we were too busy enjoying the outdoor patio space and the excellent cooking of our hosts! - Meals: For a little bit extra you can have breakfast every morning and dinner every evening. The breakfast is more than plenty to fill you until dinner time, and dinner is fantastic as well. We had a 3-course meal every night and were not disappointed. Miro (the father) is very knowledgeable about wine, and had a little something for everybody, even someone (like me!) who claims not to like wine. - Location: Villa Sumrak is in a quiet location near the northwest part of Plitvice National Park. Google maps didn’t have a problem finding the place, and if we could find it in the dark, I’m guessing most could also find it with ease. Because you are on the northwest side of the park, you are usually able to see the falls in the opposite order as many other visitors, minimizing crowds and lines. If you aren’t sure what to do in the park, (or with your day in general) Marko (the eldest son) is more than happy to help you plan during or after breakfast. What makes Villa Sumrak the best spot to stay, however, is truly the family themselves. They are always working to make sure you enjoy your stay. For example, we made a miscalculation on travel time and ended up arriving quite late. We didn’t realize we had the wrong number to call them and let them know until we parked in their parking area. Come to find out, Marko had been also been attempting to contact us to make sure we were okay and weren’t lost or broken down on the road somewhere. While we were fine, I honestly think that if we WERE broken down, Marko and his brother would have come and helped us. The whole family sets such a high standard of service to their guests, it is rare to see any of them even sit down. My husband and I love to travel because we love to discover new places, have new experiences, and make new friends. I feel like we achieved all of these things while staying with the Sumrak family. After this awful pandemic, it was so wonderful to sit and share a bottle of wine (or two) with such pleasant company. I strongly urge you to not only stay at Villa Sumrak during your visit to Plitvice Lakes, but to stay with them an extra day or two, take some time to relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and the peace and quiet. You will be glad you did.

We actually stayed on a nearby Villa, but they arranged us to have dinner at Villa Katja after our late arrival and the following day after our visit to Plitvice Lakes. The dinner package included a reception drink, salad, main course and dessert. Needless to say, the food was delicious, great price and friendly staff.

We recommend it to everyone because it was a really pleasant experience! The place is fantastic and surrounded by woods. Large, modern and above all clean rooms. At the restaurant we enjoyed good food in generous portions. The managers are very kind and helpful, the mom and the daughter made us feel like in family. A special greeting to the father, our friend Roberto Baggio by Rasta family from Italy
