We phoned ahead to check the garden would be open on Wednesday morning at 11am. Yes it would be open . We arrived at 11 and the door was just being opened . 3 euros each . (There are discounts for seniors) This was a visit to a garden we have came to on every visit to this area and we were looking forward to our visit . The receptionist was so warm and friendly and welcomed us and explained about the garden . We were told to close our eyes as we entered through into the garden. The Jasmine perfume was rich and intense and we knew we were going to enjoy our visit . After almost 3 hours of strolling ,taking photographs and relaxing . The many water features were beautiful and the cascade on the hill with the delicate ferns was stunning . A lot of hard work goes into keeping this historic garden mainly by volunteers with a pride . We didn’t miss a bit of the garden and would recommend a visit . On our way out we were met by the lovely lady who issued our tickets and she presented each of us with a bunch of grapes freshly cut from the garden. We asked about the source of the water ( El Naciemto )for the garden and we were told the source was just above the village and we could walk there very easily. I’m glad we did !

Many of the bars in Velez offer a very similar menu. For the size of the bar from the outside it has a very extensive menu. Tables in the summer spill out into the square making it a great family venue late into the night. From time to time there are live bands on the square to add to the atmosphere. The tapas is excellent and the owner even popped out on our last visit for a chat and a glass of liquor for us all. The prices across the town are very reasonable. It hard to chose a favourite as each bar has its own unique feel but I do love this place.
