We stayed right across the street from here. The remains of this Abbey are quite eerie and breathtaking at the same time. The architecture is very remarkable. I can almost envision how it looked during its day. I would highly recommend this.

This should be the perfect country estate place to stay, but the management of the hotel is so poor that it detracted terribly from the experience. For two days, we experienced no hot water in our room. To make matters worse, there was no response from the hotel once it was reported. One of the lights over the vanity in the bathroom was burned out --again no response from the hotel after a report. Housekeeping is in the room every day -- shouldn't light bulbs be a routine check? Service in the restaurant was very institutional and indifferent. We were traveling with a group, and many in our group experienced similar issues that received no attention from hotel management.

The view point is ok, but u need to stand in certain spot to see the castle inbetween the trees, inside u need to be very carefull as cattle dosn't care about travellers :) Since couple of months there are sticks in the ground, maybe there will be some path?

This lovely pub in the heart of Thomastown is a lovely place to go for a bevvie if your in the area. Although the bar area is quite small it has a lovely feel to it. The staff are very friendly and will always serve you with a smile. Out the back there is a large function room which can accommodate functions, parties etc. it over looks the river barrow and has a lovely scenic view. Across the road is a statue of the very famous Kilkenny Hurling Goalkeeper and former manager the great Ollie Walsh.
