With a group of friend we came over to this winery in order to enjoy a nice picnic day, something you can do as well in several other wineries thus providing us with a good comparison.
By comparison, this wineries has by far the best grounds we have seen for a picnic day. The landscaping is definitively professional and the possibilities for privacy numerous.
The picnic for 2 people is sold for CLP 20,000 or USD 32. Clients of Banco de Chile get a 25% discount.
The basket includes soft cheese, hard cheese, dried nuts and a bottle of their standard sparkling wine or a bottle of their Aliwen wine label. If you want a different wine, there is always the option of buying wine by the glass or a different bottle at the store.
If compared to other picnic kits sold by wineries in Casablanca or Maipo, there is definitively room for improvement (likely associated to a higher price though). For instance, it would be nice if they would consider adding water, cured meats and sandwiches.
All in all, a beautiful experience just 50 min from Santiago.

We spent a great day touring this boutique vineyard. Great wine - Amicus Carmenere.
What made this unique and not anything like North America was it's lack of commercialism. And I mean this as a compliment. We had lunch on the grounds and played with the family dog and of course tried some great wine.

Located in a privileged place, where the natural richness of Maipo Valley meets an historical patrimony connected with the Foundation and the Independence of Chile, Vina Dona Javiera is a family business that aims to rescue the wine making tradition of several generations. The estate house of Vina Dona Javiera, declared Historical Monument in 1974, was build more than 200 years ago. There, the Carrera brothers, fundamental heroes of the national Independence, lived. This estate is located in Fundo San Miguel in El Monte, 50 kms. West from Santiago.
This winery has a lot of history and the tour was very complete and informative. We received personalized attention, and the owner was really interested in what we thought. If you want to learn and see some of the history of Chile and enjoy some good wine, make sure you put this winery on your list!

With the trip to de Martino vineyard we had the chance to enjoy the countryside on the way there.
At this time of the year, Fall, is a beautiful sight to see the trees changing colors.
At the Martino's we were served appetizers, & their famous pumpkin soup, but, it was too salty. I couldn't eat it. Too bad.
The vineyard is very nice, we were shown the process of wine making & had the chance to try some of the wines they make.
The installations are very modern, clean & efficient.
Nice hostess.
A very enjoyable visit.

If you are lucky and the winter season is good, you will find here amazing spots to practice randonee skiing. Even if there is not to much snow you still can practice randonee skiing, but skiing paths are more restrictive. Try it because it is perfect: Nice spots, pretty close from Santiago, there is accommodation, restaurants and also there is cellphone signal!.

This is an excellent place to visit with family (or friends, if you want); it provides areas for camping, for barbecues, it has swimming pools (for little kids and ones for adults) and plenty of green areas.
It is quite near Santiago and easy to reach, so it is very convenient to visit during the day - however, if you want to stay the night in a tent, there's no problem; with my family, we spent like three days, with no complains.
