This park is perfectly shaded with multiple seating areas for parents that are in the shade - what a concept, right? There's ducks and a pond that is very nice and entertaining. The neighborhood it sits in is safe and quiet. There's also a huge covered pavilion. I really love this park!

This is a small, local operation. When you go, don't expect fancy, just go for the fun that you will have with others. It's not the biggest or the best, but it's clean, great staff, and cute atmosphere.

My wife and I canoed Section 2 of Village Creek. This is the shortest of the four sections Eastex offers. My wife is not very comfortable on the water and quite afraid of a number of wild critters. We both enjoyed the trip thoroughly. The creek was calm with many sand bars on this section -- some with a little shade, which we took advantage of to enjoy the lunch we packed. Since we went during the week, we had the creek to ourselves. We heard thunder in the distance from afternoon scattered storms, but we didn't get rained on. All-in-all, a great time.

This private nature preserve has walking trails that exhibit a wide variety of species thriving in the arid sandy soil ("sandylands") In May, we saw lots of small blooming plants, Long-leaf pines (rare these days), birds and butterflies.
There is no fee charged to enter this Texas Nature Conservancy nor is a reservation needed to enjoy the trail(s) during daylight hours. I believe guided walks can be arranged through their local office (call). We highly recommend joining the Nature Conservancy Membership for nature lovers or anyone interested in saving these last few great places on Earth.
