Heritage Center of Cherokee County showcases the history of the county since 1846. There are many artifacts in each exhibit area - Texas State Railroad, Rusk Penitentiary (1880s-1917), Ghost Towns - especially New Birmingham, Commerce in the county, Indians and Pioneers, Military, Education, Community, and Home Life. There are photos, music and videos to view on the smart TV. The museum is open every weekend except Thanksgiving and Christmas, New Year holidays. Special private tours and club meetings can be scheduled during the weekday upon request.
The Museum is situated perfectly in downtown Rusk, which really adds to the history factor, in my opinion. It’s obvious a lot of time and work has been put into this little building. It’s full of so much information... and totally worth the time to go through!! So cool!

This place was a lot of fun! Great tasting and history from the son of the owner. We spoke to the ladies at a much larger TX estate winery who said this little country wine maker gets made fun of, and then blows everyone away at wine competitions. We only bought 1/2 a case, wish we had gotten more, but we’ll just have to go back!
