With its plentiful beaches, dramatic mountains, and backdrop of samba and bossa nova rhythms, it's easy to fall in love with Rio de Janeiro. Made famous in song, Ipanema Beach is still the place to stroll, sunbathe, and be seen. The largest Art Deco statue in the world, Christ the Redeemer, beckons visitors to Corcovado Mountain. Rio’s annual Carnaval celebrations are bacchanalian extravaganzas of feasting, music, dance, and costumed revelry.

Spend one day of your trip to Rio giving back to the Cidade Maravilhosa by seeing the "Real" Rio. Enjoy an informative and eye-opening walking tour of Rocinha, the largest favela in South America, support the local community in the retail and restaurant district. We visited the mountain here as part of the "real" favela tour organised by Aurora Hostel (as opposed to the tourist agency government propaganda ripoff safari tours), visiting from the adjacent favela around midday. The favela is an easy walk from Leblon beach, just past Sheraton's monstrosity, and you can either walk through the favela up the hill or take a Moto taxi up to the park where the nature trail begins. The trail is a good 45minute hike (if you're fit) up the mountain, with a lot of steep climbs and some occasional slippery paths. It is recommended not to try it at all if it has been raining. Nature is rife up the trail, and if you are lucky (and bring some fruit with you) you could get lucky enough to see some monkeys on your way. Alternatively, even more rarely, snakes have been known to inhabit some of the trees about midway up. Towards the summit, the plant life gets increasingly more compact, making the walk a bit difficult, but at the top you are rewarded with a flat rocky plateau with panoramic views all over the south side of Rio, from Copacabana beach to Rocinha favela. Absolutely, this mountain climb is a must do for nature and hiking lovers, and the view is even more spectacular than the one from Sugarloaf or Corcovado.

Had heard so much about the flavalas and wanted to visit so did a guided tour and wasn’t disappointed. Our guide was informative and everyone we met was lovely and made us feel welcome. Would recommend this as a tour if ur in Rio.
Observe Cristo Redentor, Pão de Açúcar, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and some neighborhoods in the south of Rio de Janeiro. All this while tasting contemporary cuisine with a signature of chef and drinks from Alta Cocktail. Imagine? This incredible scenery is already a reality at Mirante Rocinha, the most delicious view of Rio.
