Point Richie Lighthouse is worth a quick stop if you are traveling in Newfoundland's northern peninsula. The views are wonderful, and the rocky beach is worth exploring.. This is a good location to spot caribou since a small herd often is seen on the beach.

This is a great place to learn about the 6000 years of human history here. There are artifacts of the aboriginal peoples from spear heads and bone needles to a real life size replica of a Dorset dwelling on display. You can learn about the many people who lived and hunted here before the advent of Europeans. They hunted seals and used all of the kill for food, clothing, and even skins for dwellings. There is also a gift shop and clean restrooms. You can also explore the barrens. You can see rare belly flowers native to the barrens but walk carefully so you don't inadvertently squash them underfoot. Continue along the road to Pointe Riche lighthouse and see the rugged coastline and you may be lucky enough to see caribou there.

The French Rooms Cultural Center is a local history museum. Visit us to learn about the French Fishery, The Resettlement Era and the Point Riche Lighthouse. Watch a video of a house being floated into town during the resettlement period or browse our little gift shop where you will find great little gems and local Ocean Choice International Shrimp. Make sure to visit our French Bread Oven site to taste freshly baked rolls topped with local jams and served with a hot beverage and dress in period costumes for photo ops.
The French Rooms museum was so informative. How can so many exhibits be packed into the area. There is a wonderful film on resettlement which showed the house being towed across the water by boat. So engrossing I watched it twice back to back. The staff is friendly and will start the film on command. Don't miss the bread oven. It is located a short distance from the museum on the coast with a lovely view. The warm oven baked bread and local preserves--heaven.
