We decided to stop at Myre-Big Island to break up a long drive, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. The park is quite extensive and has well-marked and well-maintained trails through all sorts of terrain - prairie, oak groves, lowlands. Incredible fields of flowers too. We saw deer, pelicans, wild turkeys, and more snakes than we would have liked, but all non-poisonous! The trails appeared to be lightly traveled and it was a great place to stretch our legs and enjoy the beauty of nature. The park ranger who checked us in was courteous and very helpful.

This is a great place to see an old fort with an old water well hand pump. The fort even asks you to close the door when you are done. This is located on private property and the family allows visitors. Please be mindful of future visitors, it's a great place to visit and think about the days of settlers.

Please be considerate, the property the crash site memorial is located on is PRIVATE PROPERTY. The land owner is very considerate to let people trudge through his field and occasionally mows it down to make it easier. So hats off to the landowner providing people the opportunity to gain access.
