The Chip & Pin is a micropub which specialises in cask conditioned beers served by gravity, directly from the cask. We also sell real ciders, bottled gluten-free beers, Samuel Smith's fruit beers, Fentimens soft drinks, and a small selection of wines; snacks of pork pies and Scotch Eggs are also available. There is no bar, customers are served at their table by staff. Due to licensing restrictions, we operate a strict over 18s only policy, but well behaved dogs are welcome.
This is a nice pub to visit if you like real Ale, cider, wine and soft drinks. They do not serve lager. The drinks are served the way they should be out of the barrel by hand without the aid of gas. There is no bar in this pub, the staff will take your order and your drinks are brought to your table. The choice of drinks and their prices are on boards on the walls. The drinks are served in glasses with a measured line. You get a full measure, not beer with a lot of froth on the top. They also serve a selection of good pork pies and scotch eggs at a very good price. This pub is not open all day and has it’s own daily opening hours and closes at 9.30 pm. This is a nice friendly pub and well worth a visit.

Melbourne Parish Church is located next to Melbourne Hall and dates back to the 12th Century, being reputedly built by the Bishop of Carlisle. It is a place of peace and tranquility with many interesting architectural features. The church is open 9am to 5pm every day and there are three services each Sunday and some mid-week services (please check the website for details). There is a fine ring of 12 bells, so do listen on a Sunday or Tuesday evening, or feel free to pop in and watch us ring. In the summer months (Easter to mid-September) there is tea and cake available on a Sunday afternoon in Church House, which is next to the church. There is no charge for anyone visiting the church, but there is a donations box if you wish to help support the maintance of this fine building.
This is a beautiful Norman Church. From the outside it is not that impressive, having being Gilbert Scotted and then some of his additions removed. It also does not have a traditional graveyard and is mostly rather hemmed in by buildings. However, the West doorway is a beautiful example of Norman architecture, as is the nave with celestory and huge solid pillars with a lot of zig zag work in the arches. I went back the day after my first visit and this time saw the wall painting which is small but in good condition. Do walk on down from the church and see Melbourne Pool, an outstanding feature in a small town.

I went a tour around Melbourne Hall with family - when the hall was open for visitors, you got a true sense of the history inside the house and it was a great afternoon trip out.

We visited the reservoir on a Sunday afternoon the car park is a decent size and costs £3 for the day. On our visit we did a perimeter walk of the reservoir meaning a walk through the lovely Calke Abbey. There is a cafe on site with plenty of outdoor seating, a really nice setting and a great place to enjoy the sun.
