We got a boat from Ben Beo wharf to Viet harbour and then did the 4 hour trek via Viet Hai village to the park entrance on the other side. We got a taxi back. If you came to Cat Ba for the views, this is not a good option as you are in dense forest for much of the time and cant see beyond the trees. It is a tough walk. Not much of it is flat and it is rocky under foot. In the middle section you are scrambling over sharp pointed rocks.
We had to buy tickets for Lan Ha bay, Viet Hai village and the national park.
There were no animals or bird life in the forest. The village is not attractive.
I enjoyed it, but my husband felt that spending hours seeing the same undergrowth was not a good use of time and he would have preferred to hire a scooter to see the scenery.

This pagoda is very famous in my home city Hai Phong. Established in 17th century and still being until today. There're many Buddha status and a beautiful garden with bonsai and some vintage objects. You'll feel peaceful and relax when you stay inside the pagoda.

Some 2-3 km southeast of Trong Mai Islet lies Bo Nau Cave or Pelican Cave. The floor of the grotto is wide and flat, but not deep, and inside are lots of stalactites and stalagmites. While the Stalactites fall down from the roof of the grotto in different clusters the stalagmites grow up in different shapes and layers. At the entrance are three stones, looking like three fairies with their heads close to one another. Two men appear to be playing chess, with the third serving as a referee.

The impressive external appearance of this opera house is similar to that in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh which is not surprising since they were all built at a similar time during the period of French influence. My wife and I were unable to explore the inside of the building as we believed such visits could only be made when attending a performance. However we have today been advised by the Centre for Tourism Information Promotion of Hai Phong city that the building is now opened on a daily basis from 7.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and visitors can obtain free information and a guide service from the Visitor Information office to the rear of the opera house at 65 Hoang Van Thu Street.

At center of the city, easy and comfortable to come. The lake is clean with large walkside area and big trees, therefore ppl could have a peaceful time there, walk, run, have a drink, whatever,... old men use this place for chinese chess playing also. It is especially beautiful at evening when the lights are turned on, no more sunlight and winds flow creating a cool area. I am a local and I love this place.

Great place for visiting in Hai Phong! The highest tower I've seen in a pagoda of this city, the whole place is clean with nice attractions, shrines on land and in the middle of the small lake with a lot of statues around and garden.
If visiting Hai Phong, this should not be missed!!
