The Monastery is included on the green tour, otherwise transport is required to visit. There is a little climb from the entrance to the rock caves that housed the Monastery, kitchen, dining area and Cathedral. Very impressive. Expect to spend around 30 minutes at the site

From Aksaray you can get a minibus from the old bus station near the city center. The journey takes about 45 minutes. You can plan your walk according to time and fitness but if possible give yourself a day to explore this beautiful valley. There is various entrances to enter the valley and we entered at the Ihlara Vadisi entrance. There you climb down 350 steps and you can walk to Blisirama and exit or on to Selimi. The steps are well constructed and easy to climb and the walk along the river is flat and easy to walk. On this route there are two stops for refreshments but I suggest take your own water and something to eat and have a picnic along the river. The scenery along the river is beautiful and along the way you can enter the rock carved churches if you feel like climbing. The signs marking the route and churches are excellent and you cannot get lost. To do the valley you should be reasonable fit and a good walker. That said my companion was 71 years old and she managed very well. I would recommend a visit to this beautiful and peaceful valley.

We stayed in Guzelyurt and loved the village and the Monastery Valley. We drove to the Red Church (Kizil Kilise) which is well sign posted (approximately 6 km west of the village on a winding road). The church is surrounded by farmland and makes an interesting photograph from a distance.
However, despite the restoration of the dome, in our opinion, the church was disappointing. Our visit probably wasn't helped by the three other very noisy visitors. But in fairness, even if we'd had the place to ourselves (which we think most people will) it would be hard for us to give it a higher score.

they say that this historical place belong byzantium term even some says hitite term.but i belive that i was made in zarrastorian era. it has an entrance hall built with stone and it is 10 m in length. This hall is built with overlap technigue that we see another example in Hattusha, the capital city og Hittites. At the end of the hall there is an open area to reach the other parts of the underground city. The other parts of the structure is located around this area. This structure has kept being unavailable because this area was full of mud that was carried by floods. Two worship place, a winery, and many wine barrels are encountered in the underground city.Along with these remains, food stores, barns, tandoor fireplaces, Turkish baths, and verios living areas can be seen. Many of the corridors that link different areas are wide enough for a camel to pass through. Camel bones and animal tying places carved in walls, suggest that here was used as a public house, during following periods.they call it a city for marketing purposes. gaziemir nderground city and caravansary located between kaymakli and ihlara valley, 35 kms to kaymakli and 25 kms to ihlara valley.
Gaziemir is open for visitors from 08 00 to 20 00 .

We stayed in Guzelyurt and loved both the village and the Monastery Valley. The mosque (which was originally the Church of St Gregory of Nazianzus) is located just near to the Valley's ticket office. The entrance to the mosque is through a gate in what was originally the bell tower and is now the minaret; this was locked when we passed at 9.45am but was open when we returned near to mid-day.
The grounds are lovely and shady and retain the feel of a church yard. The garden also has a stairway to a sacred spring (with lighting - switch near to the entrance).
We only had the briefest of looks into the mosque as there was a class of children being taught when we visited.

This church is located close to the Monastery Valley ticket office and is well signposted. As we were staying in Guzelyurt, we actually visited it before breakfast (and before the ticket office opened - we returned later to purchase a 5 Turkish Lire ticket so that we could explore the Valley fully). However, it was good to visit this church early as it was up a series of steep and worn steps (and it was a very hot day). If you continue past the church then there is a beatiful panoramic view of the village and the start of the Valley which really shouldn't be missed.

Cappadocia tours . Cappadocia hotels . Cave hotel .Green tour. Red Tour. Cappadocia baloon ride. Cappadocia balloon tours.
Lanora Turizm was very accommodating during my visit to Cappadocia. Tour guide and front desk receptionists were really friendly. I joined each of their day tours on separate days: Goreme, Ihlara Valley, and Monastery Valley. All really informative and well guided. I went alone with a group of local tourists, so I expected a language barrier but the tour guide can speak English. I recommend Lanora especially for small groups!
