Elk City is a city in Beckham County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 11,693 at the 2010 census, and the population was estimated at 12,717 in 2015. Elk City is located on Interstate 40 and Historic U.S. Route 66 in western Oklahoma, approximately 110 miles (180 km) west of Oklahoma City and 150 miles (240 km) east of Amarillo, Texas.

Our family stopped here on a Route 66 road trip and we loved it. The schoolhouse, little chapel, and caboose were favorites. The indoor transportation and Route 66 museums kept the attention of the whole family. The kids range in age from 2-15 and there was something there for everyone.

Next door to the Route 66 museum is this delightful Old town Museum, well preserved, some real choice items to see how life use to be, great staff.
