Is this Heaven? No, it’s Iowa. A place of fertile soil, traditional values and simple pleasure. And, in Dyersville, Iowa, at the century-old Lansing family farm with its quaint, and oh-so-recognizable house, baseball still ranks as a favorite pastime for all ages. What better place to carve a baseball diamond from a corn field and to make a movie about pursuing one’s dream, no matter how much effort it takes? For the first time in history, the Field of Dreams farm house is open to the public with purchase of timed tour tickets via our website.
Anyone that was raised with baseball and is taken back every spring when the smell of the grass is in the air will enjoy the nostalgic feeling when they walk onto this field. Although it was in the off season so no grass or corn fields were grown yet it was still a thrill to visit the site and tour the farm house. Our tour guide, Clarence, made the visit that much more enjoyable with his knowledge and passion for the site. His interesting little known facts about the actors, owners and site were thoroughly enjoyed. I hope to return one day during the regular season to enjoy this site again.

To be honest, we were mainly looking for things to do to get out of the car on a trip from Iowa to Wisconsin. I had read quickly about this, but oh, my, that is not nearly the same as experiencing in.
We parked, opened the door and walked in and both of us got quiet in awe. The painting and carving are magnificent. We walked slowly around, and then found out there is a paper guide in the back of the church.
The carving and painting over the altar are beautiful, so is the tile work, and the paintings on the ceilings and all around. We didn't want to leave.
I think what amazed me most is that these were local artists who just wanted to make something beautiful. It wasn't a rich person hiring a bunch of famous artists, but rather a gift from the people. So much talent, in one area!
I don't get to Iowa much, but if I am close, we will be back!

Take a small scale adventure into the history of agriculture! Revel in the Museum's collections of farm toys and unique exhibits on agriculture's amazing history.
The National Farm Toy Museum in Dyersville, Iowa is located just north of US Route 20 near the center of town. It is also right next to the Super 8 hotel (you can walk there from the hotel). Dyersville is located about 25 miles west of Dubuque, Iowa and about 63 miles east of Waterloo, IA. This small museum opened to the public in 1986 and does not cost much to enter.
I toured this museum with my wife on a Saturday morning in mid-August and thought it was interesting. I had no intention of stopping here but we stayed at the hotel next door so we drove over for a visit. I was surprised how big it was with toys everywhere on 2 different levels. ERTL company toys were manufactured in Dyersville for years so there are probably an above average amount of toy tractor collectors in this part of the country (compared to anywhere else). I enjoyed walking around looking at all the old farm toys and even found the metal barn toy that used to belonged to my uncle in the 1950’s. I used to play with that when I was a kid. I had forgotten all about that toy until I saw it here. My only negative comment was the lady at the front desk was not very helpful or friendly even though there were no other customers. She was texting or something and seemed annoyed that we wanted to buy tickets.
Overall I think you should stop here if you are staying in Dyersville. Don’t drive to far out of your way to see it as it is not that exciting.

The old house and furnishings are interesting, our guide was thorough and excellent. Surprisingly, this heterosexual male found the dolls interesting; some real antique dolls, plus Kewpie dolls, Barbies, Shirley Temple, and much more. The dolls with three faces were a little creepy, two are supposed to be covered by a bonnet, I think. Each room is a surprise.
