Theatre Newfoundland Labrador is a year-round operation which includes the four-month summer Gros Morne Theatre Festival in Cow Head, Gros Morne National Park, Youth and community programming in Corner Brook and regular regional, national & international touring. TNL is about quality theatre. It's about preserving our rich history through the stories we tell. It's about providing valuable work for talented theatre professionals and students of theatre.
The theatre was running a play "Our Living Father" a one man play, excellently acted, about the life of the first premier of Newfoundland, Joey Smallwood, a person we were quite interested in. If it is performed elsewhere in the province we recommended viewing the production. Congratulations to Theatre Newfoundland. The theatre is steps away from the Shallow Bay Motel. All tickets and prepayment is made on line. Tickets are picked up at the box office prior to the performance.

My husband and I have been visiting Newfoundland in July for many years and this is one of our favorite stops. The first time we visited, we were drawn in by the well preserved light green building with the colorful bunting blowing in the breeze. Inside this historical house is the museum named for Dr. Henry Payne who served his community for many years as a teacher and also was active in the church. You can see furniture and appliances and utensils of the period as well as several wonders--a 700 year old walrus skull and the axe used in the double axe murders of 1809. We didn't realize the significance of the axe until later when we saw the play The Double Axe Murders at Gros Morne Theater and of course we had to go back again to see the axe. There are also beautiful hand made hooked mats, quilts, knitted woolen mitts and socks. You'll also learn the role of women in those times. Thoroughly worth the time to visit. And please talk to the curator to hear stories of the items and times.
