Freezeout Lake is Montana's primary snow goose staging area, a place where as many as 300,000 snow geese and 10,000 tundra swans gather and rest before flying onward. In Spring, the snow geese head for Alberta and central Saskatchewan in Canada. There they mass with hundreds of thousands of other snow geese from Texas and other Gulf Coast States. In a series of shorter flights, the geese then make their way to nesting grounds on the wind swept, extreme northwest Arctic coast of Canada. The Snow Geese usually reach Freezeout Lake in early March, where they rest up from a nearly 1,000 mile flight from California. Best viewing of the birds is from sunrise to 10:00am and from 4:30pm until sunset. Binoculars, telescopes, a light lunch, and possibly warm clothing will make your viewing more enjoyable.

Family-oriented ski area covers 150 acres with 25 downhill runs, plus cross-country and snowmobile trails.
Sonja and I had fond, romantic (if you get my drift) memories of being here almost eight years ago. Now, we returned with our young family and, according to our 7-year-old (!!!), we had the BEST TIME EVER!! (Little does he know, eh?) Some of the old faces are still here, and the new ones are terrific-friendly. I can't say enough about the great facilities, fabulous snow, friendly folks, and LOW prices. I predict that it won't be long before they have to expand the parking lot and put in a couple of more lifts. For couples or families, this place can't be beat.

A very nice stop. The grounds are clean and maintained. Nice grass so it is a cool place to stop in the warm weather. It is a Rest Area also so has nice bathrooms and an information center. The actual museum is small but well organized. One whole room is devoted to dinosaurs since this area of Montana has produced many fossils. The lady in the museum was fun to talk to. There was a whole binder of old arrest descriptions with pictures of those arrested. Very interesting. We'd never seen anything like it. This particular lady in the museum had done the preservation work on these papers. I believe she said they were found at a garage sale and had been stuck together and in bad shape. She did an amazing job of restoring them. The out buildings were fun to go into and they each had an exhibit. We were disappointed that the "Made in Montana" store was closed but the ice cream parlor made up for it!!
