This is well worth a visit if you like driving into wild and desolate desert like areas. There are plenty of animals including the rare Mountain Zebras and many other grazers. The PR talks about the resident lions, but this is a huge area with few roads, so the chance of seeing them is practically zilch.
It best seen toured by a 4x4. We had a standard car so we had to stick to the non 4x4 routes. But beware , the standard road is only just about navigable by a standard car. There are places where the road is only just manageable. If you are nervous of driving on a very rough gravel road, you may wish to book an official tour

Our standard room was spacious, comfortable and super clean. All amenities were available and in good order. The restaurant is recommended and the Olive Grove products are available in the shop. Warm and friendly staff, committed to high standards, make this a place we can recommend with confidence.

I have been travelling through Beaufort West many times in my life, but only recently started discovering the town as more than a stop-over. A visit to the museum is a memorable experience, when you leave you can not comprehend how they maintain the museum for the entrance fee they charge! Do not miss this place.

I suppose we chose a bad day - the staff were busy preparing for a special event at the weekend and so we at first could find noone to let us in. Eventually an assistant at the library contacted one of the museum personnel and then we were able to view the Dr Barnard exhibits - this is what we really wanted to see. Everything was well laid out, but nothing startling or spectacular.

This beautiful church seemed out of place in the dusty Karoo town in the middle of no where. Great architecture and well preserved.

The museum is well laid out with information on Dr Barnard from childhood to death, it contains original photographs, gifts he received, honours he received etc., it has the machinery he used for 1st transplant, it is a education to read about his story.

This restored blockhouse was built during the Anglo-Boer war in 1901. It guards the railway bridge on the road south. We had a lot of fun taking pictures of the blockhouse, railway bridge and railway.
