Hiking, camping and bird watching are the top attractions in this majestic wildlife sanctuary nestled on the lower slopes of Helderberg Mountain. O
I did a trail run/hike up to the top of West Peak. The bottom trails of Helderberg are well marked and utilized, however the upper trails are not as well maintained and require you to be very careful. It is well worth it for the view at the top of the mountain though! It felt safe in terms of security and the facilites at the entrance were good.

This was our first visit to Lourensford. what a breathtakingly beautiful venue! Very well organised, right from the parking, friendly professional staff attending with friendly welcoming smiles. We were a group of 6 friends, together to celebrate my husband's birthday! Service at the Millhouse restaurant was fabulous. Happy staff attending , nothing was too much trouble. The pizzas were delicious. We sat outside on the deck. We did a wine tasting in the cellar after lunch, which was fun and informative and, this is a wine estate we will definitely be inviting all our friends to visit, and we'll be back! We also enjoyed the looking at the diverse Art in the Art gallery. Restrooms were pristine. This is a place to spend the day and chill and just enjoy the beauty.

** CLOSED for Winter | Reopening Sunday 1 September '19** Situated on the stunningly scenic and historic Lourensford Wine Estate, we didn’t have to add much to appeal to all the senses. When visiting, you are spoiled with sprawling lawns, majestic trees and newly landscaped, award-winning gardens with an interactive fountain. A rare and special space to soak up all of nature’s beauty! Add to that our vibrant market, boasting with more than 70 permanent stalls, as well as a number of Pop-ups to ensure an interesting mix. Housed in a permanent u-shaped structure with both a modern and rustic feel – it is unlike any other market space around. Quality products are our first priority and when strolling from vendor to vendor, you will find everything from delectable food, uniquely handmade wares and original art, to organic, locally sourced, artisanal produce. The Estate’s superb wine collection alongside ABRU craft beer, complement the inevitable festive atmosphere.
Wine tasting, excellent restaurants, wonderful gardens, play areas for the young ones, a food market, art gallery, a water fountain in which the kids are allowed to play on a sunny day, makes Lourensford THE place to visit.

Cheetah Outreach is an education and community-based programme created to raise awareness of the plight of the cheetah and to campaign for its survival.Cheetah Outreach is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year to the public. We are open from 9h30 to 17h00. You do not need to make a booking to visit the facility. We charge an entry fee of R10 on weekdays and R5 on weekends and public and school holidays. Adult cheetah encounters take place from 10h00 to 13h00 and from 14h00 to 17h00.
We purposefully found the location of Cheetah Outreach (where they are under protection and looked after by volunteers) it was probably the peak moment of our trip to South Africa. After a long wait, as the Cheetahs need to be fed, slept and ready to interact with people, we were finally led -with lots of specific rules (ie.not wearing glasses, disinfecting our hands and shoes, kneeing down...) to view and even touch them. They are cared by volunteers, and this place is there to protect the cheetahs, not to entertain people. When we touched at different times, both the adult and baby (though still big) cheetahs purred, it was incredible, even as an adult I almost had tears in my eyes, and for my son it must have been indescribable. One of the volunteer careers said at that moment, that we should be proud of ourselves, this does not happen often, in fact rarely-we love animals! Another surprise was that cheetahs were protected (from the nearby villagers) by Turkish Kangal dogs. Wouldn't expect such familiar faces so far away from our own country:)

My husband and I decided to go to Monkey Town during the holidays(which we were actually under the impression had burnt down). We both had an amazing experience there. The man who took us on the tour taught us so many interesting facts and he was extremely friendly and funny. We loved all the monkeys and were fascinated with the chimpanzees and watching their feeding time. We will definitely visit again and highly recommend going here. Children and adults alike will love this wonderful and enriching experience.

If you are looking for relaxed atmosphere, good food and great service go to Mugg & Bean, Somerset West Mall. They make the best bottomless coffee and scone. Hope, was our waitress, we've been there couple of time but she is always attentive, polite and friendly. I will highly recommend that if you happen to be around Somerset West Mall, Mugg & Bean is where you should go.
