Beautiful calm well laid out gardens with a lagoon filled with water birds and a war memorial, including a 64 feet grey marble obelisk on a plinth, commemorating the Anzacs; kiosk had a large menu and food was good - outdoor table settings under banyan fig trees were beseiged by ,rainbow lorikeets, blue faced honey eaters, ibis, miners and a kookaburra, which added to the fun. A free zoo is adjacent to the gardens. While I don't like animals in cages, some of these had been rehabilitated after being hit by cars and were unable to fend for themselves in the wild. All animals were in good condition and it was a delightful way for children to interact with and be introduced to species.

Rockhampton Zoo

Nestled within the Botanic Gardens, Rockhampton Zoo has been at its present site since 1925. While the animal section at that time consisted of monkeys, cassowary, possums, guinea pigs and pea fowl, today you can discover more than 60 species of Australian and exotic animals. Whether it is chimpanzees and cassowaries, dingoes and otters, or crocodiles and koalas, there are an array of fascinating animals to meet and observe in their carefully recreated habitats. Local tip: Time your visit with one of the many daily feeding sessions throughout the Zoo for a more up close and personal experience.

This Zoo is FREE!!! That’s right I said FREE!!! No entry fee as all, it has random donation boxes throughout if you want to support the zoo but no obligations ???? Such an amazing experience and fun for the whole family, it is a very nice size zoo with a lot of beautiful creatures throughout, they usually do talks and feeding times as well but not with current restrictions ???? Definitely add this to your list, even if just passing through, great hour well spent for sure and when we went there was a baby chimp, super cute! “Jonique Life” Follow our journey around Australia on Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok and YouTube as we highlight wonderful experiences and magical places you can add to your ever growing bucket list.

Kershaw Gardens

Kershaw Gardens has been described as Rockhampton’s big back yard for all people to enjoy. These magnificent gardens stretch one kilometre parallel to the Bruce Highway and provide an attractive, peaceful setting within North Rockhampton. Enjoy the spacious parklands with walking tracks, play areas for the kids and spectacular photo opportunities including a magnificent waterfall. This is THE PLACE to stop if you have children! Since 1988, the Gardens has undertaken a number of significant changes, but none more so than the redevelopment of the Central section which was finalised in the winter 2018. Built for families, parties, small events and outdoor activities the central section of the Kershaw Gardens is a must do. Don't miss: Wyatt's Wonder Web: Originally designed for New York’s Central Park, Wyatt’s Wonder Web includes five levels of play for kids and adults too. It is really amazing what can be achieved even on a relatively small patch of land in the middle of a busy city environment. The Kershaw Gardens are remarkable. They are exceptionally popular with locals and visitors alike. These gardens have something for everyone - modern, safe and exciting playgrounds for kids, walking tracks and even a Very picturesque waterfall. The waterfall is totally beautiful - with water cascading from the rocks into a lovely pond surrounded by lush tropical plants with various palms reflected in the pond's waters - a perfect postcard or wall calendar image. A must visit when in Rockhampton. Many thanks to everyone who created this lovely park and maintains it.
