"The Highland Birds" is a botanical garden and a bird observatory. The visit starts with an introduction of the history of the place and the species of flora and fauna are discussed. After this we take a hike through a trail in a reforested area and forest edge where we can observe many birds and other species. We finish our visit walking through a beautiful and protected rainforest.
If you go to Bijagua this place is a must. If you want to get away from the stress, the rush just come and visit this place. I am a tourism advisor, I've organized lots of trips for people over the word. I am a birder, a language teacher and believe me this is one of my favorite places of Costa Rica ( I do visit all of the hotels around because I must see what my clients might like) and honestly this a great place. You do not have to stress for breakfasts timing or any other. You just sit and relax, you enjoy nature, discover a wonderful trail, watch birds or monkey's from your room. This is a wonderful place to stay. Doesn't matter of it rains. You will definitely be surprised by the great experience you get. ( beides, this is next to the hanging bridges, not far away from restaurants and surrounded by am incredible variety of nature)

We are a private property with a primary and secondary forest at 400 mtrs. from Route 4 taking the road to the Tenorio Volcano National Park, we have clean and safe trails where we can appreciate a great biodiversity of animals, plants and insects. Come and have a good time knowing with our guides the life of the sloths (Sloths), the natural habitat of the Danta (Tapir), see the rising of crystalline water emerging from the mountain, let's not forget the frogs we sometimes have the great luck of seeing them jumping down the road, in short with us they will have a great time where we will have a pleasant talk and loaded with valuable information so that when you return home you can share your experience with friends and family; in advance thank you very much for choosing Spring Paradise Bijagua a place where nature comes first. And economic prices between 20-30 us dolar p/p.
Amazing experience, we saw more animals than expected we were blessed to see a Tapir (Danta), the guide was extremely nice, caring and knowledgeable, everything was very special. I’d recommend this 100% this is just THE BEST, I feel extremely happy taking this experience with me to the U.S.

Tapir Valley is a private ecological reserve located in rural northern Costa Rica. A group of concerned citizens purchased the land over ten years ago with the vision of protecting valuable rainforest habitat for many animals including the endangered Baird's Tapir. The reserve covers over 220 hectares of primary and secondary rainforest and adjoins the Volcano Tenorio National Park. No walk-ins permitted. Entry by reservation only.
Spending two days here with Donald was the highlight of our stay near Bijagua. The grounds are beautiful, with many flowering plants, old growth trees, and even a large wetland area. The walking pathways are very good-good footing, wide and mostly level, with minimal steps and elevation changes, and well planned routes. For my purposes, the wide, open, areas in the gardens, forest edges, wetlands and grasslands were perfect for bird photography. The owner, Donald, was very knowledgeable and had spent much time (15+ years) in the reserve, so he could predict where we were likely to find specific species of birds that I wanted to photograph. All in all, a great place if you are interested in seeing Costa Rica nature, and especially birds, in an easy to access environment. If you are interested in photographing the birds, there might not be a better all around spot in northern Costa Rica.

Bryan Mntoya was the best tour guide! We met him and he promised us we'd see monkeys, sloths and toucans and boy did he deliver. I didn't even get out of my car when the white-faced monkeys were swarming all over. The sloths were there in abundance as well. It was amazing and Bryan was EXTREMELY knowledgeable about all of those animals and more....including the topography and geographic locations of different types of animals, trees, plants etc. Wilton, who also assisted on the tour, was also fantastic at spotting all of the animals including rare frogs who were hiding in the trees. These two gents were awesome and Bijagua Ranas was an amazing experience.
